We've seen movies on Thanksgiving after the big turkey dinner. Same thing - very few people, very few kids, etc. I'd heard about the Chinese food thing on Christmas, never thought about a movie, though!

Christmas Day is even a movie release day. This year Dreamgirls is releasing on Christmas day. It is supposed to be a great movie too.

My hubby and I usually spoil ourselves with one big gift every year. We tend to be frugal all year and spoil ourselves at Christmas. Since we don't have to shop for kids, we spend that time having fun at the movies with all those great end of year movie releases.

Bwahahahaha! We do the same thing! Isn't it great?

Although this year the kids are a little older and wanted video games and books, so that's what they got. We spoil the [censored] out of the nephews at the holidays, it's so much fun. Being the cool aunt is the best job ever!

As for the hubby and I we spoil each other at the holidays too. We usually buy ourselves whatever major gifts we want (we're cheap and know where to find the best deals for our respective gifts) and then we buy one small 'surprise' gift for one another. We put up the tree after T-giving, put out a few decorations, the normal sort of thing. We also buy gifts for the animals in abundance. They get wrapped and put under the tree on xmess eve, we take a picture and on xmess morning they get to tear into them. My brother in law was in awe over the fact that they open their own gifts. They love it! I have some great pics from last year. The looks the dogs give us is hilarious. They're not quite sure they're REALLY allowed to tear the paper and chew on the packages.

We visit mom's on xmess day, drink too much wine, fight with my sister and eat entirely too much great food.

I love the fact that we don't have kids even more at Christmas time! Who needs that stress?

We have large families that we visit over the holidays, and spend entirely too much time with nieces and nephews anyhow. Their screaming and fighting do nothing to change my mind. I really don't "get" the "Christmas is for kids" mentality.

Tonight is when DH and I will celebrate "our" quiet X-mas together. We will go out to dinner, come home and build a fire and play some X-mas music, open gifts, and if there is time, take a soak in the whirlpool. Then we brace ourselves for the "Family Fun" when we drive "home" to see the folks the next day!

I enjoy christmas and buying gifts for my husband and pets and friends. I love decorating my tree and having parties to which I invite adults and kids. I dont get to much questioning/pressure from family about kids beacase my husband is getting his PHD. This year though at a family gathering my MIL neighbor asked when Im having a kid, she said I need a kid because I had all these dogs. She herself owns a dog but clearly sees them as 'just pets." I said we were undecided, she questioned further and when she ralized by undecided I meant we may never have a child she said "Your parents must be furious!" Furious what did I do? Kill someone. It was so ridiculous. Even my MIL said she was nuts and I know she would like us to have a kid. I think its nice that childfree people can relac over the hoildays and do whatever they like. im a teacher and I have a who week off to do just as I please, if I had kids Id have to entertain them, not much of a vacation/

Hi, this is my first post here.
My hubby and I mostly enjoy Christmas dinner at home.
We have no Christmas tree, but we can see trees, ornaments and lights everywhere. While seeing them, we feel happy.

We never exchanged Christmas presents, but really enjoyed spending Christmas together.

Chatting while watching one of our favorite TV programs,
listening to music and reading ....how quiet and relaxing.

"Christmas with kids" seems happy.
"Christmas without kids" is also happy, I suppose.

Nonnon,

Welcome! Thank you for joining the conversation.

My husband and I don't have a christmas tree either. It is nice to look at all the decorations; there are buildings in downtown districts that are decorated with lights, as well as private homes in the suburbs. I think they are all beautiful. I really appreciate all the effort people put into it.

It sounds like you had a very peaceful Christmas. It sounds really nice! My husband and I really did too much this Christmas. Now I'm exhausted. Some things don't change whether you have kids or you are Childfree; my hubby and I always try to do too much even though we have no children.

There is wisdom in avoiding the gift exchange. Avoidance removes social pressure and shopping anxiety. I wonder why I do it sometimes; I suppose it's because it has been a tradition in both our families. However, I give my husband gifts all year, because he is special to me every day of the year; why should Christmas be any different?

It is true that Christmas can be happy with or without children. Happiness is a choice; we can be dissatisfied with our current situation, or we can accept it and be happy with it. There are good things about every situation. I suppose christmas without children is just a little easier for me because of money and time limitations; I think I could be happy no matter who I was spending Christmas with, though.

Nonnon, do you and your husband celebrate the New Year?

How about everyone else? What do you do for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day?

I heard somewhere that if you kiss the person you love on the stroke of midnight on New Year's, it is good luck. I think I will do that this year. My husband and I will probably be staying home and making a nice dinner for each other, but that could change if our friends are having parties!

Hello, xantres

I believe I can be happy when I accept my current situation.
Of course, sometimes really hard for me.

I mostly have a nice dinner with my hubby on the 30th, and peacefully stay home on New Year's Eve.

Kiss the person you love on the stroke of midnight on New Year's, I'll try!

New Year's Eve - I make a special dinner and we eat in the dining room on the fine china. We nibble shrimp/crackers/cheese and wine in front of the tv to watch the ball drop. We kiss at midnight. It's always a quiet evening at home and I love it.

Hope the new year brings peace and happiness to everyone!
