If you haven't already, you should check out Kim Kenney's article, Christmas Without Children. I think it's brilliant!

Anyone wish to share your holiday traditions?

Mine include early giving of presents to my husband, who wanted the video game Guitar Hero II this year. (We both enjoy that kind of music, so why not open the gift early?) Also, he and I both go to our respective parents' homes on Christmas eve and Christmas day for a quiet time of reflection and bonding with our parents and siblings. (And food...my mom makes the BEST vegetarian christmas dinner!) I also try to visit my best friend and her family on christmas.

My biggest tradition is NOT being in debt come January...not having kids seems to help keep gift costs down. Or maybe I'm just a cheapskate...

Please share your holiday traditions...inquiring minds want to know!

We buy the loudest, most obnoxious toys for our nieces/nephews because their parents can't get revenge!

We load up our pooches in the car on Christmas Eve, drive around looking at Christmas lights, and then drive-thru McDonalds and treat the dogs to a special holiday hamburger!

Hey pets4me...that sounds cool! I had no idea mcdonalds was open on christmas eve. Mmmmm....hamburger.

Hey, does anyone here dress up their pets in winter sweaters or santa costumes? I think those things are so cute, especially on small dogs.

Old Navy has some cute sweaters and jackets for dogs. I bought a plaid jacket type one the other day for my Australian Cattle Dog, Cody. They were on sale half price so it was easy. He's going to be a "spokesdog" for the rescue group I volunteer with next Saturday at a gift wrapping fund raiser. It seems to raise the amount of donations when there's a dog there. He'll look very handsome in his Old Navy holiday wear! Since I don't have kids I can buy fun impulsive things for the pets!

That sounds cute! Yep, having a critter at the event always gets better results! Best of luck!

My brother has 3 dogs and they all have matching bomber jackets - the 130+lb lab/shepherd, the corgie mix, and the teacup chihuahua! They are a hoot! They also all have life jackets for the summer when they go boating! It's a riot!

We go to the movies on Christmas day. It's a great day to enjoy a quiet, mostly childfree movie. :-)

Hey, jmb, that sounds like a fantastic idea. Again, I had no idea movie theatres were open on christmas day.

What kind of movie do you see? A holiday-themed one, or just whatever piques your interest?

It is a very good point that there would be next to no kids (or anybody else) at the theatre on christmas. I have had experiences before where I and my guests were treated to an empty movie theatre...it is like a private showing! It feels very special. Excellent idea, JMB.

It's actually almost a cliche among urban Jewish folks that the best thing to do on Christmas is Chinese food and a movie...

We see whatever looks good. No holiday theme required.
Check your movie local listings... our theatre is definitely open :-)
We've found that it's one of the few activities that is open on Christmas, and it's nice to get out of the house for a while.

Merry Christmas everyone.
