Regarding the ad for boots and shoes that was deleted:

Boots and Nike tennis shoes for my Betta fish? I don't think so since they don't even have feet! Although, when I first got Finnyagain, he seemed to be trying to figure out how to swim, and he actually used to "walk" around on his two front fins at first! No kidding! It was amazing! Then, astoundingly, when I got him another Betta fish (Ernest Hemingway) to keep him company, Finnyagain started watching everything Hemingway would do and so learned to swim from watching Hemiingway. It was so touching to see that they cooperated like that. I'll never forget that! But, back to the boots and shoes - You could give your Betta fish a SpongeBob SquarePants Betta Aquarium Fish Tank for Christmas that you can get at PetsMart or a Spongebob Squarepants Betta Aquarium online for your Betta Baby! Spongebob's got on a pair of really rockin' shoes! Hee hee! They are both cute, but the fish tank is better because it's bigger. The Betta aquarium is too small except maybe just for a short while when you first bring him or her home and he's really tiny. <img src="/images/graemlins/fish.gif" alt="" />

Just wanted to add, that obviously, Finnyagain (pronounced like the name Finnegan) and Hemingway are in two separate fish tanks next to each other so that they can see each other, but not touch. Safety first. <img src="/images/graemlins/lovers.gif" alt="" />

I put a small Christmas tree in front of Claude's tank this weekend - he really does enjoy looking at things outside his tank, so I put a variety of small objects on the desk so he can see them. When I change his water, he's in a small changing tank and when his regular tank is all changed and pretty, he sits and stares at it looking for all the world like he's calculating how to get back in there!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Such a cute (and sad!) story...your Betta didn't know how to swim. Is that because you rescued him from a cup in a store?

Thus far in my fishdom life, Betta are the most remarkable life in the water with a very good chance of that remaining that way to me <g> I don't plan on ever being without one....or two...or three...or. . . lol

Am in the process of deciding on Zen's tankmate (or two) for his 10 gal.

I'm new to all of this, having bought Zen for my boyfriend on Oct 18th before I really knew what a Betta was. I was impulsive and got Zen before we learned to care for him. NOT a wise move but I sure learned quick when Zen got really sick!

He recovered quickly when moved from a 1 1/2 quart acrylic tank to a 10 gal glass with one dose of BettaFix.

Zen's christmas gift is getting him back into his tank. He's currently in a 2 gal glass container while I cycle his tank because I stupidly rushed into all this and figured cycling out not long ago.

And a friend or two for him for Christmas too <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Nice to meet you Mary_Betta. You have just the two boys?

Regards,
Karyn

That is such a cute idea Cheryl! I think I'll do something similar.

That is so great! Yes, I put a small Christmas tree by my fish for them, too! It was a small fiber optic one that has glowing, moving lights - my fish are fascinated by it! They love to watch the lights flowing around the tree! They really seem to appreciate it and understand that it's something special for them! I got it really cheap at Rite-Aid drugstore! It just runs on two AA batteries!
