Wow. Interesting article. I knew that pregnancy plays havoc with your body (your bones shift/soften etc)... and I knew that many people suffer from post partem depression... and I knew about the hormonal mood swings etc of pregnancy, but I guess I'd never thought that the physical/chemical changes of pregnancy could lead to other mental issues. It makes sense though that this kind of thing could happen. Pregnancy really is ROUGH on women!

I read this article when a friend sent it to me. I had heard of the postpartum depression before of course, but hte schizophrenia was a new one. I know that schizophrenia usually develops in young adulthood. I doubt pregnancy alone could bring it on. Maybe its a traumatic catalyst that triggers a psychotic break. I also wonder if its all the presures moms feel know that they have kids later in life and have less kids to be perfect moms that causes so much PDD. Every mom is supposed to raise a little genius. There is lots of pressure to have your kid involved in a zillion activities and to enroll them in a perfect preschool etc. I think in the past people had more kids but there was actually less pressure placed on making hte kids perfect, and being the perfect mom.

Heh...this comes as no big surprise to me. <img src="/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" /> Don't forget incontinence...not exactly life-threatening, but certainly a very difficult condition. It's certainly exacerbated, if not outright caused in some cases (it seems) by pregnancy. Elise

My job requires I pee every 3 to 5 hours, so my bladder control is key.
I also like the fact that I can SLEEP alot, like 8 plus hours per day with no distractions. My Hubby is also not demanding that I be a traditional wife who caters to him 24/7... My Life is very rich for my needs!!!
