Dear Moderators

I have, in some posts, shared the urls for other forums for extra resources for those in need. I want to know if you'd rather this isn't done. How do you feel about forums sharing other forums?

I will definitely respect your wishes. Maybe you could view my posts, if sharing urls is ok, and be sure that I've done so in an appropriate manner? If it's not ok, I will edit them.

Thanks

When I ran this forum, my philosophy was to always allow the sharing of great resources, since the goal is safe, happy fishies. But spamming is something else. There is a fine line and the new Fish Editor will have to make the calls on this. overall on the internet, if you are a regular forum contributor, then sharing useful URLs can be very helpful.

Understood, completely. TY ((Jilly))

Having run forums (having nothing to do with fish, not remotely) since 95, I know exactly what you mean by spamming. I'm definitely not a spammer and the Fish Editor will see that so I have no worries.

I hate spamming. I call them 'hit and runs' when someone brand new comes, posts 1 post that gives direction to another forum, and is never heard from again. It's very rude!

It was from consideration of that, and being a Host myself, that I wanted to post and be sure sharing other Betta forums (I think I have only 3 times or so?) was kosher here.

I've enjoyed myself very much here (but think I'm getting on the nerves of some with my incessant questions, worry and tendency to go on and on and on and...<g>).

I've learned alot here about the sweet lil Betta I have named Zen and how to care for him. I found you guys right away (so you're easy to find!) and I'm grateful that you guys were here.

Namaste
Karyn

P.S. Even a search by my name wouldn't lead someone to a forum I Host so my mentioning even that in this post is safe.

I have also shared a link to another forum, mostly because it has seemed somewhat difficult to get answers on this forum as of late, so I feel bad for someone with a sick betta and want to make sure they get help.

Who is the new Fish Editor by the way?

Hi, the new Fish Editor is Mary Brennecke, and has initiated a few new posts above. I have not been running this forum since last March, when I moved and had to give up all my fishies.
I believe this site was looking for a new editor all this time! Mary should do a great job.

here is her PM info:

Why did you have to give up your fishes?

I'll be moving from Florida to Tennessee in a year or so so I've been looking into how to move all the live things with me. You couldn't move yours?

What kind of fish did you have?

Hi, just saw your questions (lots going on over xmas). You can absolutely move your fishies and I have done it lots, even posted an article here on bella on best ways to do this:

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art32500.asp

(The title says bettas but this also covers other fish)

My problem is that my husband is looking at a career that will have us moving every year or other year, and possibly to international destinations. That's just too much to deal with! So i am paring down our possessions. Selling stuff on ebay and craigslist, etc. It's quite a job to become portable!

We had to rehome our beloved fish and tanks(to good homes, of course, to friends I trust), and rehomed three of our dogs (among my family members who needed good doggies). So we are down to the one dog that I will move around with us to whatever countries we end up moving to. This was very hard but I am so relieved my other pets are happy with good families.

I am hoping to have a fancy goldfish tank after our next move (might be to England). In the meantime I am decorating our Seattle livingroom with an Aquarium theme, have fish swim on our TV via a DVD, and have an aquarium screensaver. My husband even bought me a cute mini-aquarium (fake fish) from ThinkGeek.com. I still miss my tanks, especially my South American cichlids (such great personalities), and my batches of cute guppy babies that I was selectively breeding.

Hi panini1204,

Sorry it has seemed difficult to get answers on this forum as of late - yes, I feel bad for someone with a sick betta, too - absolutely - yes, I am the new fish editor. If you have more useful advice for me as the moderator of the fish forum, I'd be happy for you to send me a pm and tell your opinion. Thank you so much - I am going to try to answer many questions on the forum now. Thank you, Mary smile

it really is so much appreciated when other regular members of this forum - other fish lovers - help with fishie questions. The amount of questions (usually about urgently sick fish) can be overwhelming, and it is so nice when experienced members post. smile Remember that bella is a volunteer-run site (editors are not paid). It's a labor of love, truly. smile
