I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with adding roses or other flowers to doilies. I have seen several doilies that do not look like the flowers are worked into the design, but added to a finished doily. Are they glued, or sewn on? And if sewn onto a lacy design, how do you hide the threads? I have just completed a red pineapple heart shaped doily and would like to add a few roses and leaves but am unsure how they should be attached. I will possibly list for sale on ebay so I want it to be right. Thanks for any help, Beth

Hi Beth, and welcome to this site.
I was just looking up some of the patterns that Carol and Priscilla did , so I could answer your question or have Carol answer your ??
when I saw it was YOU !! eek

I have sewn Roses, Butterflies ,Daisies and Grapes, with regular sewing thread onto Pineapple wall hangings.

Eva queen is a very gifted needle worker and she will have some ideas and so will the other friends here.
So get ready for all their tips.

I have some hand written patterns of flower dolies that were passed on to me by my mother.
One is of a rose that you begin the doily with and keep adding to until the whole doiley is complete. All of the flower and butterfly dolies I have made are attached by crocheting them into or onto the pattern.

All the doilies that I have made have been just as you described. Always the flowers or butterflies have been crocheted right into the design. I have looked at pictures though of several doilies made by others and it just appears that this was not the case. That is why I thought these embellishments were added as an extra to the original design and possibly just sewn in the desired place.
