bettas will come right up to the food and snatch it before it's barely in the tank. so if he's ignoring it, take it out. don't let it sink down and foul the water. Eventually, as Mel said, he WILL eat something. try other foods and make sure you read thru the thread about getting bettas to eat. the forum table of contents is the thread on the top of the forum. let us know when he eats...

Jilly's right, it seems liek you're giving your fishie too much foods. one or two pelets (if they're realy hungry) is all tehy need for one sitting. if you're guy isn't eating maybe try something else. after testing an trying i now have a buffet of foods for my guys.
this is my two cents...
i've seen the fishies being fed live black worms or blood worm in the store. my guess is that when we bring them home they're expecting the good stuff and won't settle for less. they just have to get used to it, unless you're willing to out and get some live goddies.
but there are pros and cons to live foods. the cons are that unless you receive worms from reputable distributors and they are sterilized, you might be setting up your fishy for a bad day. sometimes (not all the times) they can get parasites from eating live foods that aren't "clean". and you have to watch for frozen foods the same way.
i've heard that getting freeze dried can be ok for treats now n then , but as a staple food in a diet it isn't ggod. some people have reported fishies and ADFs getting internal problems from them. i think it's how the stuff they freeze dry 'em with.
anyways, i've got mine to eat a nice variety, sometimes i'll start them in the morning with a little BettaMin fish flake (just a little), maybe in the evening they can have a worm or two when i feed the frog. but usually i mix it up between flakes, Aqua Culture Betta pellets (careful they can be too big for some bettas) and Hikari Betta Gold.
you should make sure if you give him anything and he accepts it, once he's eating regularly to give him a mixed diet. bettas (like us) need their vitamins too!

oh yeah!! i forgot to mention that to prefer black worms over blood worms is because the black worms (should they escape you betta/frog) don't die and decompose in the substrate. i tested this in the mini swamp i was growing and sure enough after a week of being in even the most foulest water i could provide they were still alive and multiplying! they're hermaphrodites and produce mostly by segmant regeneration. just a bit of info. tut

Ok well I got a new food. It is a German food, that is Mosquito Larvae. Anyway, my fish still won't eat. At least that I can see. So I don't know if he is planning on starving himself to death or what. I really don't want to lose another fish

have patience josh. i'm sure he's just pouting from the new move. like i said, feed im one maybe two (use a clean medicine dropper if you have to) larvae a day until he starts eating. if he doesn't eat anything after 1 minute i would try sucking it back up so it doesn't spoil his water. i can't stress enough how important it is to have clean water, dirty water stresses fish out as well makes them sick.
PLEASE make sure that you're using dechlorinated water and maybe even a dechloramine. ask Jilly, she knows enough to start Aquarium Chemistry 101. WHICH ISN'T A BAD IDEA JILLY *wink wink nudge nudge*

Josh, I'm glad you are willing to humor your betta fishie. if he won't eat, you can't take it out on yourself. keep trying and removing what doesn't get accepted. it's not natural to starve when there's SOMETHING to eat...but I think they like to wait us out. make us their slaves. Which we end up being anyway

not a bad idea, Mel, about a Chem 101....

Sad news. I'm house-sitting for my mom and her betta got fin-rot. I noticed weird behavior Friday, the rot was seen Saturday, and he was dead Sunday before I could get him medicated. Poor guy.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's betta.

It's hard when our own die, but to have someone else's die when in our care is tough. I'm sure you did everything you could for him.
