I know that a lot of people without kids use their extra time and money to travel. I dont travel much because I cant afford it and Im kind of a homebody, the 6 fur babies (3 dogs and 3 cats) dont help either. I like to plan future trips, probably imaginary though. My ideal trip would be something a colleague of mine without kids did, she went trekking in Uganda and saw the mountain gorillas. Im wondering what trips you guys have taken

I work for American Airlines and have had LOTS of opportunities to travel with my husband to places that we never could have gone if we had kids. To list a few (we have furkids too, but get dogsitters or board):
England, Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii, Aruba, Mexico, Alaska, New York, Boston, Rhode Island, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno, Jackson Hole, WY, Albuquerque, NM, Santa Fe, NM, Colorado Springs, Montreal, Calgary, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota...the list goes on! Like I said, it helps to work for an Airline! I have coworkers with kids who NEVER fly because it's so difficult for them to fly standby with the kids and they have to get seats together which is no guarantee when you're flying standby, so they opt not to go anywhere!

I love to travel, and would certainly do it more if time/money allowed. Fortunately for us, my mom is almost always available to bunnysit for us (also have petsitters/friends as back-ups). A few years ago we bought into a vacation program, so far we've only been a few places but I've got a list, plus that book "1000 Places to See before you Die" - I'm working on it!
I've been to UK (England/Scotland) several times in the past few years (DH's aunt/my dearest friend moved there in 2000). I've seen a LOT of England - haven't made it to Kent/Canterbury (E/SE) or far west/coast, but pretty much everything else - Wiltshire area (Stonehenge/Avebury), Bath, Oxford, London, Cambridge, Peterborough, York, Yorkshire moors, Whitby (for the fish!), Lake District, Potteries/Stoke on Trent, Stratford upon Avon (the bard), Cotswolds, Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester. I absolutely love it there. My favorite place is Glastonbury - it is so spiritual, mystical, peaceful - I feel completely grounded there. Did a whirlwind tour of Scotland from Edinburgh to Loch Ness, it was incredible. I've been to Paris but not DH, need to get him there! Celebrated our 10th anniversary in St. Thomas, USVI. Been to Cape Cod/Nantucket after DH's graduation and again this spring. Also hit upstate NY/Adirondacks this fall (need to go back). 5th anniversary was camping in the Finger Lakes. I adore New England in general. Also love VA (Williamsburg, we're geeks), TN, NC. Chicago was a blast. We have friends/family in Houston, so we'll be making more trips there. Did "unimproved" caving at Bat Cave (Carter Caves) in KY (not wild caving - that would be creepy to me), also Mammoth several times.
We do a lot of camping/boating in the summer, which we both love. Yep, you can do those things with kids, except if we had kids, we wouldn't have a boat!!

I have a timeshare. It's $150 a month but it means I never have to save for a hotel when we go. We go about once a year. Once it's paid off we get to keep it and still go once a year. It's pretty sweet. We just got back from Orlando. I paid the neighbor to watch the fur babies.

We board the poochies when we go, and the cats if its more than 5 days. Can get a bit pricey, but my mom offers to fly down and house sit with the animals once or twice a year. When we lived in Michigan we'd rent a cabin for a week and take, at the time, our one dog. That was awesome. We've gone on our own and camped in the UP too. Lately, Las Vegas have been a big one, but we did make it to Germany this year. Husbands old job had a sales meeting there, so we only had to pay for one airfare. I make trips back to IL occasionally to visit with friends. Its nice being able to just go. Just me and a carry-on.

We travel a bit. But now that we have 2 dogs, it is like having kids in a way, so you know how that goes! We took a cruise to Mexico not too long ago. We are planning another one for next year too.
DH went on 3 fishing trips and 3 motocross trips in the past 2 months, and we went fishing together once this year. He also went surf tripping alone and snowboarding and I tagged along and skiied. We are putting the dogs in the kennel for a few days next week to go to the snow.

we have been to europe a few times and love traveling there. however, my dh is quitting his job and opening his own practice, so this christmas will be our last trip for a very long time.
we usually go to paris, spain, netherlands, belgium, germany because it's so easy to get around in those places. last thanksgiving, we toured the battlefields of ww1 in belgium. i actually got to go into some of the trenches and saw flanders fields. so touching.
normally, our trips are around thanksgiving and christmas mainly because i'm a teacher and get a week off at that time. summers are too crowded overseas.
we used to spend christmas and thanksgiving with family, but about several years ago, all the grandparents passed away within a couple of years of each other, and family functions got way too sad. so we quit going. my mom and dad started spending the days with my brother and his family (2 kids), but now that my brother and his ex-wife are being assholes and not letting us even talk to the kids on the phone, they are spending thanksgiving with us this year. if i had known my brother was being such a jerk to them, we wouldn't have planned our trip for christmas and would have had mom and dad over instead.
mom and dad do come and watch the furkids (their "grandfurkids" as they call them). i ask them to come twice a day if they can, but mom tells me dad comes 3 or 4 times a day and sometimes spends a little while here. i think he likes the tivo. and the quiet.
we enjoy traveling most of the time, but i have some health issues that make it tricky. and i miss my furkiddos terribly. fortunately, we can usually find an internet cafe each place we visit and email mom and dad to see if they're all okay.
jeff has traveled to spain and holland without me because he has so many frequent flier miles (his job requires him to travel 3-5 days a week- that's one of the reasons he's quitting). he has enough miles for a few trips to china and back now. don't know if he's going to take them yet or not though.
anyway, the best trip we ever took was last thanksgiving when we got to see the battlefields and the cemeteries. i've always studied the great war, and to see the stuff first hand was amazing.

I want to travel to Ohio to see the 8th wonder of the world: Tbunny's bunnies. (sorry, the bunnysitting thing just sounded too cute!!)
I found out tonight from one of my girlfriends that I'm visiting an Anime convention in a neighboring state in march...hey, it's not that exotic, but it's fun, and it gets me out of the house!
I have been considering visiting Chicago. It's fairly close by, like 4 hours by train, but there is a lot to see and explore there.
My dream is to visit Japan, but there are some marital difficulties I must fix before I have the time and energy to learn Japanese, and the money and PTO time to actually go there.

Well, we live in Europe, and not having kids has allowed us to do a lot more traveling all over. I've been all over England, Ireland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany (of course), Czech Republic, Italy, and Turkey.
The other people stationed here who have kids...well, they don't do as much traveling as we do, if they get to travel anywhere at all. It's usually the ones with the older kids who are able to go.
