I am so glad I found this forum. A lot of people disagree with my decision not to have kids. I love kids but I don't think I am very maternal. Just the thought of traveling the world and seeing everything my parents didn't really get to see makes me happy. We take a vacation every two years and just got back from a fun adult trip to Orlando.

Anyway, I found this procedure called Essure, it's a non-invasive sterilization procedure. Has anyone had it? My consult will be coming up in a few weeks. I am excited and unsure and then excited again.

I've been talking to my hubby who has never really wanted kids and he was unsure and now he says it's cool to get it and if we ever feel we need to have kids later on we can foster.

Anyways, nice board and thanks!

Is this the springs inserted in the fallopian tubes? (I thought it had a different name.) If so, I've spoken to several women who were very happy with it. I had to choose something else because I'm allergic to the metal they use. Permanent birth control is FABULOUS!

Hi Kat: I had ESSURE done two years ago and I thought being childfree was liberating! I was back at work two days later, recovery time is nearly nothing and I could not be happier. I'm so glad all those doctors refused me for so many years - jerks - it wound up being to my benefit anyway. It is so much less invasive and painful then a ligation.

I really cannot think of one complaint or negative to this sterilization procedure. The only thing I would say is that the three month dye test you get is more uncomfortable then the procedure itself! If there are any questions I can answer for you or anything I can help you with, I am more then happy to, and welcome to the board.

Ugh, I didn't know there was a 3 month test too. Boo! Oh well. I know it will be great. I am tired of being on BCP all the time, and I only get slight pangs for kids about once every two years. Fire, I love your comments. I've been reading in here for a long time today!

Hey Thanks Kat, I'm one of the least favorites here but that's OK. I don't kiss a ss or play the little 'click' games that seem to surface from time to time. I ain't going anywhere so ...whatever. I look forward to your comments too!

Sorry to ask this, and I'm not being confrontational, but, why doesn't your husband go for a vasectomy instead? It take minutes, and seems even less invasive that this procedure you may opt for....

Alexandra: Speaking only for myself of course, my husband did offer. But I wanted to do this FOR MYSELF. I told him if he wanted to get a vasectomy for himself, I would fully support him and nurse his little cohones back to health , but I was still getting the ESSURE. He was a bit adamant about my not going under general anesthesia unless it was a necessity, it really scares him, but I didn't care. It was so worth it and as I've already stated, recovery is next to nothing.

My brother had a vasectomy and his recovery time was way worse then mine. I believe the ESSURE is much less recovery time then getting the balls whacked.

I think it probably differs from man to man...my husband had it done and we 'knew each other in the biblical sense' the same evening!

Take arnica after the operation, to accelerate healing, and Milk Thistle to help rapid elimination of the anaesthetic from your system. General anaesthesia is stored by the liver for anything up to 2 years, and has been known to lead to side effects like head rushes, anaemia, poor digestion gall bladder dysfunction and food cravings.....

Little springs? That reminds me of the IUD, which was a terrible thing.

How is this different? I'd love to stop taking BCPs.
