The shops are getting ready. The sales flyers are all Christmas oriented. My young son is practicing for the concert. I even put pine boughs in my flower boxes, before the earth freezes, although it feels a bit silly as the weather prediction is for several days of balmy temperatures.

My organized list and shopping plan are already sadly messed up. And I haven't even started, (well I have a little started.) But I do feel the pressure already.

I admire the cool headed shoppers that do it all the week before Christmas. I wonder if that is the only way to avoid anxiety.

This week I finished all my Christmas shopping - and I did it all online. <img src="/images/graemlins/music.gif" alt="" />

I will wait till after Thanksgiving to decorate, though.

Our family decorates the day after Thanksgiving Day! It has been a tradition since I was born in 1955. I carried this tradition over to my family. We already have most of our Christmas Shopping done! We shop on days were the specials are on and they have a generous discount on top of the sale price!

I have been buying for a while. I usually have a Christmas box that I add to all yr. This has turn into my birthday and Christmas box now. Birthdays seem to sneak up on me and I just get their Christmas gift out and give it early. I have a few small items to buy, but overall, I am done. My inlaws will decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. I will not have a house AGAIN this yr to decorate. The builders are running behind and we will be moving, so no Christmas decorations for me again this yr. This makes year 10 of either not being home or moving during Christmas, so I guess that should be our tradition.

I am just now starting to shop and doing most of it online. Whatever I can't find, I'll have to venture out to the stores to get.

I'll start decorating the house on Friday after Thanksgiving and DH will put up the outside lights and decs sometime that weekend.

I always kept a Christmas box also. However, this year we moved in the late summer. With planning the move, and related expenses since we have moved, shopping is a mixed up, sidetracked venture.

The plus side this year is that when I finished my shopping in October, I always managed to need more stuff by December.

Judith, your tradition is interesting! But when you are settled in, Christmas decorating is going to be more special to you than it may have otherwise been. Joy to you. Our Christmas celebrations have always involved a lot of traveling as well.

Our previous home was an old country farmhouse. While we renovated that, we lived in a one bedroom cottage. Not a lot of room for decorations. To add cheer one year, my dad sent us a Christmas tree that filled half the livingroom. It was a beautiful tree. Our tree has been the focal point since.

Being Canadian, if I decorated after Thanksgiving, I would have done, a month ago.

Although, being Buddhist, I don't 'celebrate' Christmas per se, I am very happy to support and to join in with the festivities with my family, and rejoice in the joy and pleasure they get from it....I am more than happy to attend midnight mass, and join in with the carols,as singing is a remarkable expression of Joy.. There is something very moving about a church-ful of people singing to their hearts' content....
Traditionally, although preparations for Christmas (gift buying, paper and ribbons, cards, garlands) starts at the beginning of December (about the time we start opening our Advent Calendars)we don't decorate the tree or erect the nativity set until Christmas eve....and it all comes down on the sixth of January (Epiphany). Thus, we observe the 12 days of Christmas.
Christmas at home always has a very 'Victorian' flavour, and (providing there's no family bickering,) is a wonderful affair....!

I shop pretty much all year as I'm always on the lookout for the perfect gift at a great price. Decorating begins once the dishes from Thanksgiving dinner are done. The fall decorations are stashed in boxes and the tree is put in the stand before sundown! I will put out the rest of the decorations such as arrangements, silk garland etc. over the next couple of days.

It certainly doesn't feel Christmas-sy yet (70 degrees for the next few days), but when it turns cooler I'll be ready!
