Greetings,
I am a newbie to the list and to some degree with orchids. I have had a keiki potted for a year from a phal. It has several good looking roots, but has not added leaves since I cut it off the "mother". I repotted it into a smaller pot (had used a big pot intially). I mist my orchids only and use filtered water spray daily.
Should I be doing other things to this plant to get foliage?
Thanks

Sometimes it will take up to a year for a keiki to get going after it's cut from the mother plant. Remember that it was getting the majority of its nuitrition from the mother plant and now has to start supporting itself on its own. I would expect that it should be growing by spring.

Hi,
Did you mean that you mist only? You never water? Does this method work well for you? Just curious.

My babies are always slow til they get their roots under them, so to speak. I pot in as small a pot as possible and water each day with a very weak fertilizer solution. Seems to give them a little extra strength.

Have patience with your keiki and I'm sure it will reward you. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have only misted for about two years. I know folks that water once a week. Both of us have blooms. I use filtered water and water first thing in the morning. Right now, I have four adults, each with at least one stem and a keikeabout 6 months old in a small pot.

I got the misting idea from an Austrian man on one of these forums. I have never fertilized, but I plan to start using a VERY dilute plant food maybe once a week which I will just pour through in a sink.
