I've had horses all my life and just sold my last one summer before last. They are massive amounts of work and money, but I loved it while I did it.
Now, we're down to just one dog, our baby girl Belle. She's an Old English Mastiff and we rescued her at age 4. She's 9 now, which is very old for a giant breed. Everything we do revolves around her needs, as it should be. If we have friends who want to go on a long motorcycle ride, we turn around when we know it will be time to feed Belle soon no matter where we are or what we're doing. We just look at our watches and say: "Well folks, gotta go home and feed the baby"; they just roll their eyes - whatever. We don't mind, we just love our baby. What a sweetie she is.
When she is gone though, that is it, we're done. I got diagnosed with a bone condition a few months ago and just can't do it anymore. The brushing, the baths, the constant hair and vacuuming and mopping every day - it's just too much for me when my hands swell and hurt so bad. But I will continue doing it as long as Belle is alive. Thank God for prescriptions and ibuprofen!
Like xantres, I love gardening and plants. I got my green thumb from my grandmother and I love to foster that. I have a small garden every year and lots of plants all over the house. I also adore chickens and will probably get a few of those when Belle dies. They are very easy to take care of and I could listen to their gentle clucking and watch them scratch for hours on end lol! Y'all have some wonderful critters here, and YEY for all you rescuers out there <img src="/images/graemlins/heart.gif" alt="" />
