I'm half dutch and half indonesian. my hair is about shoulder length, with longer and shorter layers, and is straight as a pin. in highschool i had 4 perms done, and thank god- my hair isn't damaged. all the hair stylers i go to can't believe that i had 4 perms done.
but when i use curling irons and hot rollers, my hair wont hold a curl! i've used products and what not, and after an hour the curl falls out. i've tried to curl when it hasn't been washed, and nothing seems to work! even for prom, when the hair dresser curled it, it fell out. i want to try the velcro ones, but i figure that if the hot rollers dont work, nothing will! any suggestions?

If hotrollers don't work, velcro rollers won't. Have you tried a wet set? That's when you wash your hair, towel dry, apply mousse, gel or spry gel, and roll your damp hair on rollers. Then, you and either sit under a hood dryer or just let your hair dry. You take the rollers out when it is completely dry.

i have the spongy type rollers, that do work. but it takes forever to dry! when i do use them, i usually sleep with them in. I suppose i'm looking for a quick way to curl my hair. Because using the spongy rollers i need to know the day before whether i want my hair to be curly or not.
i would love to have a loose curl/wave that i can do to my hair depending on whether or not i'm going out in the evening..

Hot rollers only hold a curl for while at best, a wet set will hold all day even days.depending how long they stay in.
I set my hair almost daily always have and often sleep in rollers. my hair looks great in the morning. For big night affairs I will set my hair for a few hours before the affair. I no problem doing my errands and shopping with my hair set in rollers. I like ecause I do not have think about my hair all day. I use plastic rollers with rollers clips they hold best especially with setting lotion and hair spray.

Like you, my hair is straight, and won't hold a curl. A year, or so ago, I was going to a family wedding. I washed my hair and put extra-hold mousse on each strand prior to rolling it on very long foam rollers, which I attach to the roller next to it after rolling my hair up. Those are easy to sleep on.

Gosh, a man I'd never seen before came up to me and said I had the most beautiful hair he'd ever seen! I'm disabled, and doing extras like rolling hair is painful, but I have to tell you that is one time I'm glad I did - and a time I'll always remember!

My hair STAYED curly for four days! I didn't brush it out, and put it on top of my head for sleep, spraying it with hairspray each night. It stayed curled, and would have lasted longer had I not been able to stand it and washed my hair. I usually wash my hair daily.

Now when there is something very special planned I do exactly the same thing. The result is always the same. Hope this helps you!

we do straight hair styling most week ends for weddings, wet setting is great if you have the time and equipment but i find if you wash your hair the night before(non oily) and next day spray dry hair with a (med) hold spray on each section before rolling in hot rollers small sections.allow to cool and then wax after in a light wax. design hair and finish off with lacquar, hope this helps
