I am working on this pattern:

Christmas Tree Christmas Stocking
Lion Brand� Jiffy�

GAUGE:

10 sts = 3 inches (7.5 cm) in single crochet BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.


STOCKING

CUFF
With B, ch 40. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 39 sc. Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. Repeat last row 7 times (8 rows total). Fasten off.

TOP
With A, ch 38. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 37 sc. Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. Repeat last row 25 times (26 rows total). Fasten off.

HEEL
Note Heel is worked on last and first 9 sts of Top.
Skip first 28 sts, attach B with ch 1 in next st. Work 1 sc in this and rem 8 sts. Bring beg of row around to end of row and sc in first 9 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 1 Sc in next 12 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 2 Sc in next 6 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 3 Sc in next 7 sts, sc in next st on side of sts just worked, ch 1, turn.
Row 4 Sc in next 8 sts, sc in next st on side of sts just worked, ch 1, turn.
Row 5 Sc in next 9 sts, sc in next st on side of sts just worked, ch 1, turn.
Continue in this matter, increasing number of sts with each row, until all 18 sts are worked. Fasten off.

Heel Decreases With A, attach yarn in first st to the right of heel, ch 1, draw up a loop, draw up a loop in first st of heel, yo, draw through all loops on hook (sc dec made), sc across next 16 heel sts, draw up a loop in last heel st, draw up a loop in st to left of heel, yo, draw through all loops on hook. Ch 1, turn. Sc back across 18 sts. Fasten off.

FOOT
Skip first 9 sts of heel, attach A in next st, ch 1, sc in this and rem 8 heel sts, sc across 17 sts of Top, sc across rem 9 heel sts (35 sts). Ch 1, turn. Work 11 more rows sc with A.

TOE
Change to B. *Work sc dec, sc over next 14 sc, sc dec, ch 1, turn. Cont to work on one side of toe ONLY, work a sc dec on both sides of work every row until there are 2 sts rem. Fasten off.*

For 2nd half of Toe, rep from * to * beg in last st of first half.

TREE APPLIQUE
With C, ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 1 Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 2 2 sc in 1st sc, sc to last st, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Repeat Rows 1-2 until there are 10 sts total.

Work 3 sc in 1st sc, sc across bottom of tree, work 3 sc in last sc, sc along side of tree evenly, sc in 2 sc at top, sc evenly along rem side, end slip st to join in top of first sc.

Tree Trunk Attach yarn in first of 2 center sc at bottom of tree with ch 3, dc in next sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Attach cuff to stocking With B, attach yarn to right-hand side of beg ch edge of cuff. *Draw up a loop in 1st ch, draw up a loop in next ch AND 1st ch at top edge of stocking, yo, draw through all loops on hook.* [Sc in next ch of cuff AND next ch of stocking TOGETHER] across until 1 ch remains on stocking and 2 ch rem on cuff. Repeat from * to *. Fasten off.

Sew back, foot, and toe seam. Sew cuff seam.

Sew tree to stocking front, centering between cuff and heel. Sew 6 stars on tree.


I am having trouble making sense of the heel portion. I don't exactly understand how to follow these instructions starting at row 1 of the Heel, where it says to sc in first 9 sts. Ch 1, turn. Then...Row 1 Sc in next 12 sts and on from there. When I try to do this I end up with this...

Lynn,
Could you post the Picture on the pattern or site that the viewers can give a look at what the end stocking looks like.

The instructions want you to sew the stocking into shape
so what you are doing may be right.

I don't have time to work the pattern out , so looking will help very much !

Thank you for the reply Mother Hen. Here is the picture for the pattern. I am making this for someone and using different colors than the pattern. I just realized that this pattern is not for a beginner but would still like to try to finish this. Thanks for any help.

Lynn, When I look at the picture , some stitches starting in ( row 3) will be worked up the side of the yellow stitches you have made.
Look at the pattern picture and see how it curves and then will be joining the unused stitches for the heel.

Work your pattern real slow and take each step , one at a time.
I sometime want to see something shape real quick also.

I always say " If someone made this pattern , so can we "

I know you can do this pattern , you have determination and that is important.
