Do self help books really help or they are only addictive?

It depends on the book, a few of my favorities are:
Unstoppable Women by Cynthia Kersey
Developing the Leader Within by John Maxwell
Goals by Brian Tracy
These books will really help in fact, they may even change your life.

I used to read many self help books. while reading them I used to feel very good. but I used to revert to my own ways after reading the book. That is the reason I asked this question.

I think the reason a lot of self-help books may not have a lasting effect is they don't give enough detailed instructions for applying their "system" to your own life. One of my all-time favorites that does give plenty of instructions is Feeling Good by David Burns, which deals with how to fix dysfunctional thinking through cognitive therapeutic techniques.

But another approach would be to focus on a certain area of yourself that you want to work on and read several books on that subject. Hitting the issue from several angles can help a great deal, and sometimes it takes hearing or reading about several approaches before you find one that works effectively for you.

I appreciate the way you have clarified the issue. Thanks.

I think self help books does help and to me, there are very addictive.

By constantly reading self help books, it helps to block my mind from the unnecessary negative thoughts and the worries.

Of course, most self help books talk about similar ideas, I take that as a reminder for me to keep practising what was written in the books.
