I have been practicing with a new CD about crochet I have. It's a wonderful CD that shows two hands crocheting, etc. I decided I was brave enough to give a EASY scarf pattern a try!! I was feeling very confident and brave until I got home and read the pattern. I know you will probably all giggle at this pattern, but it has me stumped! Any help you could offer would be appreciated!! Here it goes....no laughing now.

Using both yarns together, chain 11. (I do get that)

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook (ch2, skip next 2 chs, sc in next ch) across: 4 sc and 3 ch-2sps.

Row 2: Ch 5, (counts as first dc plus ch 2), turn;
dc in next sc, (ch 2, dc in next sc) twice: 4 dc and 3 ch-2sps.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first dc, (ch 2, sc in next dc) twice.

OK, I told you, probably very easy for all you pros. Where I'm really getting hung up on is I don't understand if the (across:) is for the steps in the ()'s or what it says after. I don't understand the across: 4sc and 3ch - 2sps. I know -sps is spaces but I'm getting really confused as to where the spaces are....

Again, thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Diane

The () is for the stitches you are to do, the stitches after the : are what you get when you do the steps in (). Hope this is clear. If not go to about crochet.com and click on stitch directions on the right side of page.

The beginning looks wrong so far

"Using both yarns together, chain 11. (Should be ch 10)

(Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook (ch2, skip next (2 chs, sc in next ch) across: 4 sc and 3 ch-2sps.)
Could be written "Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook (ch2, skip next 2 chs, sc in next ch)3X. (4 sc and 3 ch-2sps.)

Then this next row was a bit confusing too.
Row 2: Ch 5, (counts as first dc plus ch 2), (turn;)Why is this word here- a bit confusing?)
dc in next sc, (ch 2, dc in next sc) twice: 4 dc and 3 ch-2sps.

Is what you posted all there is to the pattern?
