Okay, sorry for not posting in a while. Life and circumstances have kept me busy. Forgive me!!!

I just had to vent a tad bit of rage. Yesterday, I went to my not-so lys. There was a group of children there for knitting lessons. The shop owners were extremely helpful, and I'd definitely recommend the shop to anyone visiting Madison, WI.

I'm getting off topic a bit. So anyway, I decide to sit around a while and crochet (it's a combo yarn/coffee shop), and I'm taking in the atmosphere. A woman there with her daughter is admiring another lady's work, and she SMELLS it and says, "This is Shetland wool, isn't it?"
Okay, that was strange enough, but the she goes on talking about "cheap" yarn ($10 a ball, no less), and I shook my head.
Now here's the clincher. I was admiring some Rowan yarn that has that thick/thin look with ribbon running through it, (can't recall the name, $14 a ball). Anyway, her daughter came up to her with the same type of yarn, and Mom looks at it, smells it, and says (like it's carbon monoxide) "THAT SMELLS LIKE ACRYLIC!!!" There was a little acrylic in it, but D@*&, it was beautiful!!! Now I know the true meaning of yarn snob. I feel that a person should use any fiber they like, if they can afford it and it's not an allergic risk.
I'm getting off my soap box now. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Kaycee,
I don't use wool, > it itches us, so I won't use that. But to stand by and snob my nose and show my $$$ is just too snobbyyyy.
I would love expensive stuff, but if the in-expensive is beautiful >> then use it.
The ladies may just have grown up not having down to earth stuff. So excuse their smellers, and their manners.

Your my type of a friend.

(steps on the soap box LOUDLY) Excuse me.......It doesn't matter what type of yarn it is...It is WHAT you do with it that matters !!!!!! (turns head quickly, held high and now steps off the soap box)

I second that...it's just sad to see such snobbery passed on to a child.

I make alot of sweaters and gloves, hats etc for my son, there is jus NO and I mean NO WAY that I am going to spend $15.00 a skein to make him something that he will drag thru the mud, lose, leave outside, etc. Plus Red Heart has held up thru all of my little darlings "tests" and I just throw it in the washer (very easy to care for). So until he gets to be say 20 , I'm using Red Heart.
