Just to get everyone introduced in the forum, I've created a little game. Simply post your name, your favorite Chinese food, and tell us if you can make it from scratch or not.

I'll start it off...

My name is Lila Voo, and I actually have two favorite Chinese foods. The first is Jiaozi which are potstickers, and my second favorite is Egg Drop soup. I know these two seem a bit odd, but they remind me of when I was young. My dad would make both of these sometimes for lunch and they would be delicious! And can I make these from scratch?--You Bet!--Now let me hear yours....

Hello, my name is Sharon. My favorite Chinese food is Colonel T's chicken (at least that's what it's called in this area), and yes, I can make it from scratch. Can I name 2? Fried rice and I cook it also. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi there, my name is Phoebe. My favourite chinese food is lotus root soup (lian ou tang).

I haven't tried cooking it from scratch before since I have a granny who cooks for me at home. Lucky me!

I stumbled upon this site today and thought it's a great place to hang out.

I've got a little website on homemade chinese soups. Hope to share some recipes and cooking tips here soon.

Mongolian Beef - which I have to try Lila's recipe she posted for me...
and Sizzling Rice Soup - and yes I can make it from scratch, but Golden Buddha's still tastes better! (I always make or buy this when the family is sick with colds.)

Hi Tammy-

Steak Kew is actually the term used for the Cantonese style of steak stir fry. It is basically cubed flank steak mixed with Chinese mushrooms, oyster sauce, and any other vegetables that one would like to add. Here is a recipe that I�ve found to be wonderful! Let me know what you think. And feel free to add any other vegetables that were in the dish at the restaurant you mentioned.

2lb flank steak
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1 tsp ground ginger
2 tbsp chopped green onion
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
4 tsp cornstarch

peanut oil
10 Shiitake mushrooms
1/2 lb snow peas
1 tsp salt

1. Cut all of the fat off the steak and then cut into 1 inch cubes. Mix the next 7 ingredients with the cubed steak and place in the fridge for about an hour.
2. Soak the Shiitake mushrooms in warm water for about 15 minutes, then cut each one into quarters. The Shiitakes can be substituted with one can of straw mushrooms.
3. Rinse and trim the ends from the snow peas. Then blanch them by placing them in boiling water for about 1 minute, removing them, and running cold water over them to stop the cooking process.
4. Heat peanut oil on high and stir fry mushrooms and meat until brown, then add the snow peas and salt. Cook for about 5 more minutes and serve with white rice.

I have three favorites and I make all three, Pot stickers, egg drop soup, and beef and snow peas. (The latter is similar to your steak kew)
