I am so happy to see of forum of this type. In many ways, society makes "Atheist" seem like such a dirty word. I usually just say I am Agnostic but the more I think about it, I realize I am an Atheist. It is nice to know I have somewhere to go to find other individuals who feel the same way.

I am SO tired of religious zealots trying to cram their fantasies down my throat. It is nice to be able to connect with people who actually have enough intelligence to question what is force fed to them w/o following it blindly. I look forward to visiting this forum often. :-)

We look forward to having you.

And that "by rulers as useful" part has always given me a little chill.

Yes, I have visited other non-believer forums, but this is a refreshing area. Atheist is on its way to becoming more acceptable due to an emerging movement. There are an increasing number of related activists groups that are all gaining in membership and visibility. In fact, the Atheist movement has moved into a new phase after the fledgling angry toddler phase started my Madalyn Murray O'Hair. She got the ball rolling by literally punching holes in the religious legal superstructure. There is a focus now on community activism and legal strategy. People of all kinds are getting involved. With the failure of the Fundies to control our government, look for a return to secularism in the country. There are a number of Fundies coming to this forum seeking to convert the poor non-believers - don't be afraid to push back. They want control over your voice. Let then know where they stand. Thanks!

Expect this to be a long and frustrating battle. They're presence and influence is firmly established in our social, commercial and governmental institutions. Our tax dollars are being spent to spread the word. Their word. Negating their effectiveness is not going to be easy or quick.

The optimist in me has to believe that eventually reason will triumph (and by that I mean only that religion should play no part in law, not that everything must be an atheist because I am).
And, yes, I say that realizing fully that history provides us with a lot of examples against the idea of reason winning.

What tax dollars are you talking about Pantheist when you said,

Actually our tax dollars are being spent to help the new evolutionary / materialistic, atheistic movement ok. Not the other way around. The tax dollars are spent to teach kids that there is no God and matter is all there is. The universe is all that exists. So the government is siding with atheists and evolutionist on this. The government is controlled by these evolutionists who take things based on faith and don't believe in God but I know our society is going to come to an end really soon if it continues like this. This is what history says. Show me one society that has survived that have believed there is no God. And I think we should learn from history otherwise our society is going to come to an end.

I'm rather glad it's here, too.
And God Loves You, there is nothing new about atheism, materialism, or evolution.
