Either or. I've heard people use it both ways.

<img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Hello, for the pronounce, I think it should be distincted by American or British accent, so both are OK for the time being. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue2.gif" alt="" />

I love the name Madeleine! However, a word of advice, once she starts school the other children will probably use their own nickname for her and it could be Maddie.

I named my son Nicholas and everyone at school calls him Nick, which I really didn't want, but so it is.
