Good Morning.. My name is Sharon, I am a 62 year old grandma of 11 and a great grandma of 4. I just recently joined the group here. I am enjoying reading your messages very much, you all sound like such a happy group and I am glad I can be part of it. I hope to make a contribution now and then.

I have a problem with both my hands and I have not been able to do knitting nor crochet projects for quite some time, the twisting part of crochet and knitting aggravates the muscles and causes too much pain. Because of this problem, I am offering my crochet pattern books, leaflets, magazines for sale. I can e-mail my lists of what I have available if anyone would like to have them.

If you are not interested, but know someone who may be, I would appreciate it if you would pass on my e-mail addy to them... maybee@execulink.com also asking to put the word "crochet" in the subject line.. as I don't open messages I am not familiar with.

I have already written to Eva (the moderator) of this group regarding my request and she very kindly agreed to let me put this message on.

Wishing you all a wonderful day, Sincerely, Sharon

I will also be emailing you. And good for you- not too many great granny's I know are as computer savvy as yourself <img src="/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> , I only wish there was something you could do that would alleviate the pain and allow you to crochet.

I'm sorry to hear about your stiff hands. I wish there were some way for you to still crochet. I'd love to see what books you have to sale too.

So sorry to hear you aren't able to enjoy the craft as well. It is such an enjoyable craft. I'm even thinking of trying my hand at knitting at some point to be able to utilize some patterns my mother has shared with me. I have to admit though... knitting feels extremely foreign to me. I'm sure I will be crying for help when I get stuck... LOL

If you would be so kind to ad me to your list as well, I would appreciate it. I'll email you as well.

Thanks!

Sharon,

So sorry to hear that you are having difficulty. Have you tried some of the new ergonomic crochet hooks? I've seen several advertised on the web and a couple for sale through craft suppliers such as Herrscheners and Annie's Attic. One is a "trigger" crochet hook design. Others are simply "fat" handles. I, too, have began to have a great deal of pain when I crochet and have recently been experimenting with various ergonomic designs. Basically I have been purchasing a single hook from different sources, some from e-bay and others advertising online, and trying them out. I am finding hand-turned wood hooks with "fat" handles seem to work well for me and virtually eliminate all pain. And, surprisingly, I have had no difficulty adjusting to them. I hold my hook using the "german" method, like holding a knife instead of like holding a pencil, which is easier on the wrists. The ergonomic hooks are a bit expensive, running about $18 per hook, but well worth the expense to me as I don't think I could stay sane without my crochet to relax with!

Wishing you well!
