This practice area is meant for you to try using the At the Crossroads Tarot Spread described in the tutorial on the BellaOnline Tarot site.

At the Crossroads Spread

1. First Drawn Card: - The King of Swords

2. Second Drawn Card: - The Fool

3. Third Drawn Card: - The Lovers

4. Fourth Drawn Card: - Death

CASE STUDY: Sharon has been married to Rick for 12 years. They both have successful careers and mutually decided not to have children together. Sharon has been working with Dan on a project for the past six months and feels like she is falling in love with him. Dan acts as though he feels the same. Sharon feels confused: she loves Rick but feels their relationship has become stale and too routine. When she is around Dan, she feels younger and more alive. She feels like she is at a crossroads, so decides to consult the tarot. She draws the above four cards, (illustrated below) and asks the question:

"Should I pursue a relationship with Dan?"

Crossroads Spread Practice

How would you interpret Sharon's drawn card, in relation to her question?

Hello June,
i like your Cross Roads Spread. Straightforward and easy to manage for novice and more expreienced readers as well. i have printed out the tutorial and am adding to my tarot journal. Thank you for making it available.

Now, to our example: Sharon's Rick = the King of Swords. He is intelligent and commanding, probably a bit more left brained and logical, rather than emotional or spontaneous. While these are typical "male" traits, it is not unreasonable for her to be bored or in need of a little spice in her life.

Enter Dan = The Fool. Here is someone that Sharon can connect with creatively. A "new" experience with unknown and undiscovered possibilities. While Dan has his charms, he is still an unproved quality. By this i mean, Rick has a 12 year track record. Dan does not - a mere 6 months is not much to base a long term decision on.

Position (card 3): Outcome if first position Rick is chosen = Lovers reveals a mutually loving relationship, connectedness, companionship, and overall sense of happiness.

Position (card4): Outcome if Dan is chosen = Death. Whenever this card appears for readings i have done, i am quick to point out that it doesn't necessarily mean a physical death. It is a card of monumental change. An indicator that choosing this path leads to a time of upheaval and drastic changes in life.

Hopefully, Sharon is a rational person who values the stability that Rick provides. Should she opt to be more impulsive here, i see the death of her relationship with Rick and uncertainty with Dan.

Great excercise, June!

Well not to be unimaginative but I agree with the previous poster. Hits right on the head.

Hi Everyone, this is my first shot so please be patient and feel free to provide a critical review.

1) I get a different interpretation from othe spread.
1) King of Swords - a very organized and meticulous person. Is this Sharon's husband or the new person she met? I suspect the new lover

2) Fool - starting something new - be careful where you leap. I see Sharon taking the leap and having an affair

3) Lovers -- Well, we know the outcome - quit obvious

4) Death -- this is a card of transformation. I see this card as meaning to Let go - detach yourself. If so, the affair will be short-lived. For some reason, I suspect Sharon will have the affair and find a rekindling of feelings for her husband.

Very interesting interpretstion Leeza,

This could also be perceived - would you see the Fool representing Sharon's husband then, if the King of Swords is her new lover? Or does the husband not figure in the four cards drawn?

I suspect the Fool to be Sharon. I don't her husband in the spread because he really is on the outside of the situation. Does that make sense?

Yours is a totally fresh perspective on the cards, Leeza...and yes, it does make sense. All of the responses here are excellent, and show how uniquely people "make meaning" of things, including the tarot cards. The key then, (to me anyway) is to tailor the reading for the actual person who the reading is for....what interpretation has the most meaning for them?
