I don't understand these silly women either. Wasn't it their choice to become pregnant? Why should anybody else be amazed by it? The woman holles referred to in her original post sounds p****d off because her husband isn't making a fuss of her now she's pregnant. Seems to me that if she went through so much to get that way, she'd just be happy to have achieved her goal. I guess her motives weren't as pure as she thinks! Also sounds like she was looking to her colleagues to provide some of that much-needed attention she feels she's not getting from hubby. So many people use pregnancy as a way to get attention. They're often the people who drive us crazy with their wedding and honeymoon plans too. It's like they want EVERYONE they meet to be interested in their lives. Hello? We're too busy living our own lives to be bothered! [color:"orange"] Sediments exaclty. I hear ya girl.
If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him." --Katherine Hepburn

From a management perspective, I think of it a little like this. The poor deluded soul is carrying around a living, blood sucking tumor for 9 months (willingly, yeah sure, I know, but still...). For 9 months, I'll give her the benefit of her "illness" and a bit of superficial sympathy.
My sister literally could not breathe the last half of her pregnancy as the little monster was pressed up into her lungs. So...
But after the 9 months and our required 12 weeks paid leave (yep, my company PAYS them for the full 12 weeks), they better get their act back together.
I've learned just a tiny bit more sympathy with dragging around a load every day being stuck with this stupid cast.

[color:"orange"] I think pregnant women get spoiled with all the attention, and the already attention starved ones whine for even more attention. Pretty pathedic. There are other more intelligent ways to get attention other than to get pregnant and ruin your life!

I had a pregnant woman working for me once. She had mucked something up and when I asked her, she said "can't you see I'm making fingers and toes here". I had to walk away before I said something she could sue me for. (UK employment law is great - you can't even ask them when they intend to return to work).

i don't think she realizes how much it hurts to hear her complaining about something we (dh and i) tried so hard to have. i thought she would, but she's blind to that. a lot of people are like that. they completely forget about tact.
anyway, i'm just avoiding the preggos as much as possible. right now, i'm in a bad spot because i'm feeling beaten down again. just when i think i have peace, i get all sad again. <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> i think avoiding them will help me feel better.

Oooooh good on you royalgala for walking away! I would go crazy if somebody said that to me. I work in a public library, and anytime someone becomes pregnant on staff they are taken off the desk. You know, so they wouldn't have to be on their feet all day blah blah. Well, we had a visit from a senior manager (a woman) one day and one staff member was telling her about our 'pregnant woman' rule. She said that it was the wrong thing to do, as it implied that pregnancy was an illness rather than a natural life event. She also said that we were 'letting the side down'. I was thrilled to hear such a sensible response - it was all the more relevant because this woman had herself just finished maternity leave. She was speaking from experience. Needless to say, she went down like a lead balloon with most women present.... Holles, sounds like you are having a time of it right now. Keep reading and posting, and try not to let the insensitive jerks get to you too much. I know, easier said than done.....

Something similar happened to me many years ago, in the UK.... I had to take a pregnant woman to task regarding a mistake she had made, and she came back with a similar reply.... " My hormones are raging you know....can't you see I'm making a baby?!?" I quietly responded, "Yes, we can all see you're making a baby, but whilst you are here, you're also making money. And mistakes. You decide which you'd rather do. When you HAVE decided, let me know, and we'll act accordingly, ok?" I walked away. She left the following week.

[color:"orange"] You go Alexandra!!!
I think if people that are pregnant have to complain, then there must be nothing really special about being pregnant. Like it's not all sunshine and roses. When pregnant women complain, think of it has they are not sugar coating everything like some pregnant/childed do.
