I've found a few recipes that I have had have to nix because they have onions in them as my hubby doesn't like them at all and I don't know what to put in their place when removing them. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome.

We use garlic powder or chives or chopped peppers for a similar taste and mushrooms for an added taste without onions.

Are these recipes that you can still make without the onion? Or are onions an integral part to the recipe? I generally just omit them and proceed with the recipe. My hubby doesn't like them either and they generally give me heartburn.

Onion powder is generally the substitute for onion...it gives the same flavor but without the actual onions. Is it the taste he just can't stand, or the texture? With my husband, it's the texture he doesn't like.

My husband can't stand the texture. So I usually puree the onion or use onion powder.

Karyn: It's a bit of both. The recipes I've found do use it as an integral part of the recipe so I've been rather stumped.

Koala: I'd add mushrooms but he doesn't like those either.

Frankly, I don't see the problem.

Why would you even contemplate preparing for someone who can't abide onions recipes that have onion as an "integral" component?

Is this a trick question? If you wanted to cook kosher, would you be looking at recipes for pork?
