Hey guys- just hoping for a littl help here- I am working on the rainbow waves afghan from this page

http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/august98_crochproject.html

I am having trouble with this part
"Row 4: Sc in first sc,* sc in next sc one row below, sc in next sc 2 rows below, sc in next sc 3 rows below, sc in next sc 2 rows below, sc in next sc one row below, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. "

I have tried it a couple of ways already- the first time it made a wave line but it was sticking out from my other rows and it was only a line not filled in like the picture

The next time I tried it slightly differently and it made spikes. Please help!

this is some times refered to as "long" crochet. instead of inserting your hook in the next stitch, you will go to the indicated row and put your hook in to the cooresponding stitch yarn over and pull up then complete the stitch. be liberal a bit with the tension so you can pull the yarn all the way up to the row you are working. it takes a bit of practice, but its a lovely way to crochet.

Thanks so much butterfly and mother hen. I will give it another go- I think that I understand how to do it now. It is such a pretty afghan when it is done I just couldn't give up on it.

I want to thank you both again - especially the picture that Mother Hen sent me of the closeup stitches. I worked on it last night and I GOT IT...YAY. Thanks again - I am so glad I found this board.
