This dream was a particularly frightening one for me and I woke up checking my stomach was still in one piece. It went something like this.

The dream started with me lying on my back in a sparsely furnished room with a wooden floor. I know that i have a horrific wound across my stomach and that if I move all of my intestines are going to fall out and I will die (sorry if this is a little graphic). I know that if I am able to stay on my back I will survive, but I need to get help.

I can see one of those old fashioned black bakelite telephones on a low desk and I manage to shuffle over to it on my back. I pick up the phone and there is a voice on the line. I say "you have to come and help me. I'm dying."

The dream cuts to two ambulancemen in white and they are coming into the room and are trying to lift me up to get me to walk out of the room, they don't know that I am wounded. I try to tell them that if they lift me up I will die. I tell them that I have to stay flat because my intestines will fall out. The ambulancemen look at me like I am completely insane and they try and lift me up anyway. My arms start thrashing and I'm swearing and carrying on but they start to pull me upright anyway then I wake up.

I have no idea what this could be but I have had another dream which involved my intestines (goodness knows why)

The second dream was a short one, but even more disturbing:

I was in a cage, a really tough metal one and either I was growing or the cage was shrinking. Anyway, It got to the point where my body was bulging against this cage and when I looked down I saw that I was holding my intestines in my hands. The bars were getting tighter and tighter around me and my flesh was starting to burst through the bars. I felt completely and utterley hopeless. Then the dream ended. I found it really disturbing.

Does anyone know what intestines are linked to in terms of dreams?

These are yukky dreams! The intestines falling out made me wonder if you had a past life flashback- possibly you were hung drawn & quartered- I know I've been there & had terrible IBS this lifetime until I went back & saw the source of the problem. Oh dear that cage one sounds like a medieval torture instrument too...

Alternatively is it to remind you to listen to your own 'gut reaction' & make yourself heard? You knew what was wrong but got ignored in the dream. Does the cage represent feeling trapped or confined by present circumstances?

Reading your second dream made me remember times when I would try to cram myself into a pair of jeans that used to fit. Very Uncomfortable. So I have to ask, but you don't have to answer...have you gained any weight?

Your suggestion made me chuckle. No I haven't put on any weight.

Having thought it through I think that my intestines, for me particularly, are linked to my creative side. When I don't exercise my arty side, I tend to get a bit cranky and I find it hard to sleep. I guess it's because a certain part of my brain isn't being exercised. Intestines are linked to the absorption of nutrients and I guess that being creative is the nutrient that nurtures my mental wellbeing.

So I guess it could be that I was letting my mental wellbeing get flabby.

Never thought about that before Ravenstar! Hung drawn and quartered what a horrid thought.

I have got red hair and I think in the past that was associated with witchcraft/sorcery. I guess I could have been in a lot of trouble for that!

What came to me with the first dream is that if you are having trouble, someone you've asked to help you is trying to do so by getting you to stand up for/by yourself. You might feel you can't do that... don't have the "guts" to do so?
Along those lines, the second dream might mean that having the guts/courage/wherewithall to get out of the cage you're in is literally in your hands. Scarey as that is, I think I'd rather that than having even a small part of me recall being drawn and quartered!

Be kinder than you need to be. Everyone is dealing with something.
