Aww, cute name! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I don't know what kind actully... just the I guess "usual" type petstores keep in stock.
When I got him my beta had a white/pick body, red violet cheeks, and just where his fins connect with his body he has an array of blue, pruple, redviolet and indego and it streaks down into the rest of his fins that go back to silvery/white. Since I've had him for the past 3 weeks he's getting more bold colors, so his body from being pinky before is now slowly shading into a red-violet and his tail fin is getting more indego at the end of his fin.
his name is Eclipse asfter his light center, dark outline and then lighter fins on the outside.
With the food, I don't know if that's true or not. I had my other beta for 4 years on only 2 kinds of dry food. Whenever I've heard people react to his age they all seemed to think he had a long and healthy life. (His name was Silly Pants)
