As loving dad to several bettas living (Boy Blue, Jet, Rocco, Scooter, and Cricket [female]) and a couple splashing in the great Puddle in the Sky (Mojito, Bandit), I've endured heartbreak greater than I thought imaginable for my finned kids. I now am faced with a very sick, and dying little boy, Rocco, who has been given several courses of gram negative and positive antibiotics, and assorted other remedies with no success. Rocco has advanced dropsy and has hung on to life for the past month like the tough guy he is. The thought of euthanizing this sweet boy makes me cry, but I can't endure another day of watching him suffer. I offer a gentle and painless method I've found on a very good website to those of you in similar circumstances; it seems more humane than the freezing method I've read on this site. I welcome your comments. Here is the link: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm

I have a question that, for the life of me, I can't figure out. My fish are living in aqariums with heaters keeping them nice and warm, but what happens when they become too warm?

I have no idea how to keep my fish cold! I have no a/c in my house and their temp gets above 86 all the time. I'm worried. I can't transfer the tank to a cooler place and I am not here enough to make frequent colder water changes.

I really need some ideas. If there is something I can buy I can work toward it, but I am totally broke.

Any ideas?????

PLEASE HELP MY FISH!

mckie, i am so sorry you have to deal with this. I have read of that method before. I have no personal experience with it, but it does seem more humane than the others I have heard. *fish hugs*

Of all of the methods I have read or heard about that does seem like the most painless way. I'm so very sorry you had to make this decission. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
