Crikey! Steve Irwin, otherwise known as the Crocodile Hunter, passed away while filming a new documentary. Complete story here: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art45673.aspI really enjoyed his energy and passion for the animal kingdom and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. What are your thoughts?

I was pretty shocked to learn how he was killed. I mean you knew he was going to get himself killed sooner or later, but you'd think that he'd be bitten by a poisonous snake or mauled by a croc, not killed by a relatively harmless creature like a sting ray! I really feel bad for his wife and kids.

We journey now into the unknown. Does anyone have a map?

I agree. You'd think law of averages, it would've been a croc, not a stingray.
Plus I've swam with stingrays before and I'm thinking it must've been extremely agitated to lash out and sting him.

It is a truly sad story. He will missed dearly. My family will be praying for his family and friends. My husband and I shared a few tears. We thought about his children and his wife. He made a small mark in this world in his way.
Love is the greatest gift in the world so why hide it when you could use it.:)

Michelle - your article mentions his son being one year old at the time of the 2004 incident - he was actually only one month old at the time. They have showed that clip extensively today on the Today show and MSNBC.

My kids and I loved to watch Steve's adventures. Although, I lost a bit of respect for Steve when he used his one month old son as a publicity stunt 2004.
I still have an incredible amount of admiration and respect for a man who can get people to consider the care and needs of nasty things like spiders, snakes and crocodiles. He was very obviously full of life and love for all living animals and especially for his sweet family. I believe most people knew that Steve Irwin would not die lying down in bed but doing what he loved mostin this lifetime and my God if you can go out doing what you are passionate about what else could one ask for in the end.
I am saddened for his wife and children and friends, who will have to live with out his beautiful energy to guide them every day. May they find peace in the days ahead and know that Steve is still with them.
Angels above them, angels below them, angels all around them to bring them peace.

Michelle, Actually if you think about it...it makes more sense it was something like a stingray he was less familiar with, rather than a croc which he had 20-30 plus years experience.

That's correct, he was, and I meant to type month, instead of year. I guess that's what I get for posting the story at 2am. LOL I was in such a rush to get the news up. The typo's been corrected.

True...I was merely thinking in law of averages. But I think with his penchant for picking up the creatures and having to touch them, it was only a matter of time before one got a little too irritated.

I really enjoyed his love and his passion for animals. It was nice to see that there was someone who truly loved all creatures. It does and it doesn't shock me that he died the way he did. The fact that he is dead really shocks me; however, I am not surprised that he died from a freak accident like this. He knew and respected crocs and snakes. Stingrays are usually the most docile of animals that you can meet in the sea. They usually only sting you when you step on them or something similar. I do want to learn exactly what happened because it is such an unusual way to die. I do want to send my thoughts and prayers to his family. I also hope that Terri keeps us the good work at the Australian Zoo and that she raises the children in the Irwin tradition.
