Hey there everyone! I'm back from my 10 days in Ukraine. It was great! I ate completely native while I was there - tons of potato pancakes and piroges. It wasn't very healthy, but with all the walking I did it balanced out and I didn't gain or lose any weight. The people there of course need the high calories to survive their hard labor - but it's sort of sad that they don't get more nutritious food to eat. It's like the Irish eating potato dishes all the time. Yes it's a lot of calories for their hard work, but it's not really a "balanced diet" that people need with protein, vitamins, minerals, etc.

I looooove pierogies. There's a Russian Orthodox church down in the East Village (NYC) that sponsors a pierogie lunch every few months. Without a doubt, one of my fondest food memories of all time. Homemade pierogies with sour cream *drooling*

Yes they are quite tasty. I've found frozen ones in the store are pretty close so I eat those when I have a craving. My grandmother used to make them by hand and it took her All Day Long. I couldn't spend that kind of time myself
And yes I dig them into mounds of sour cream

that's great that you didn't gain weight! I just returned from my cruise, where I allowed myself to eat what I wanted. My pants are not as loose as they were, in spite of TONS of walking at ports, stair climbing (we refused to use the elevators...I can feel it in my calves!!!), and use of the ship's gym. But then again, I don't normally eat so much, so it's fair enough. At thsi point, Dan and I are being extra good with our post-cruise workouts and just bought a ton of salad veggies for the week.

I think that's a good way to spend a vacation, and plus, you probably gained muscle which is very good for you but heavier than fat! So you are probably even more healthy than before, in many ways
Of course salad veggies are great! I really think people should have a salad every day, even if it's a side salad before a meal. They are just SO good for you ...
