Well, but I mean, if kids don't ever eat vitamin C, they get scurvy and it's rather clear. I think most deficiencies are pretty clear <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> There's not really advanced bloodwork necessary when someone's body is falling apart from scurvy!

hi lisa,

i am defining "deficiency" as "less than one should have" - not that they are gonna die. LOL.

to be honest though, i am not sure that even the bloodtests that i take is able to differentiate between cis and trans omega 6 fats. it does give me my levels of certain trans fats.

i dont care for myself, since i am careful about the the fats that i put into myself.

the sad (Standard American Diet) gets almost all of its original omega 6 fat from foods that have been highly processed. so i highly question the integrity of the omega6 fat that we eat.

Yes the standard american diet is awful in SO many ways!! It makes you wonder how parents ever decided "this is a healthy way for our kids to eat". Maybe just because it's the way they eat?

lisa,

just like in many things today, i think people just began to go for convenience. i recall as a kid that one of my friends always ate tv dinners. i used to think he was so lucky - they seemed really cool. he was always the nervous, fidgety type. i now wonder if much of his demeanor was caused by this food.

i was lucky that my parents, especially my dad, limited the amount of junk we could eat. i remember that for every bowl of frosted flakes we ate, we had to match it with one of grape nuts or total. he started buying mostly brown bread, instead of the white wonder bread, etc.

That's great that your parents did that! If they went completely sugar-free I imagine you might have rebelled completely, but by giving you a bit of each you learned to appreciate both.
