Thanks for the welcome freespirit... it is GREAT to not feel like the 'oddball' because I am not interested in kids. Not sure what the world will be like in 20 or so years when these children grow up with this 'me me' attitude and feeling of entitlement?

Heck, Orange, we're already seeing it with some of our interns and new grads (in engineering). The things these kids are expecting when they come out of school is amazing. One seminar I attended told them to expect high salaries, extra vacation time, other perks like gym memberships, etc. So they graduate expecting the perfect high paying job to be handed to them on a platter, to work with the most prestigious clients on the biggest projects, to take off whenever they want, etc. Maybe these things are true in large companies in fast-paced cities, but not in a small company in the Midwest.
I know I'm showing my age, but I can remember just being thrilled to get a professional job. I worked a lot of overtime and did lousy assignments (including lots of travel b/c I was single) because I wanted to keep my job. Eventually it paid off - I make good money, I'm salaried, I can take whatever time off I want, etc. But I EARNED it.

[color:"blue"] Kids today are spoiled ROTTEN by their very own parents. I'm guessing that is what you mean by the, "me me me," attitude and mentality. I've seen SERVERAL parents (BNP) pop out kids and not raise them properly, turn around, and have more. PNB are very, VERY rare nowadays.
TBunny, kids nowadays, expect to graduate from either High School Or College, to get a "free ride," when that is not how it works, as you have mentioned. If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him." --Katherine Hepburn

I think what scares me most about kids today is the lack of ability to empathize for others. Also not being able to care about something other than themselves. It is depressing to think about getting older in this kind of world. Maybe that's part of the reason I am not too keen on having kids today too!

Welcome to the website! There's definitely nothing wrong with you for not wanting kids...sometimes, I think we're the sane ones in the world!

Without positive, sane, intelligent adults to model, kids do what they will. I don't fault a child for bad parenting. But I've no problem placing fault on lax parents.
