No, I'm not offended. I know what you meant. It's just that I myself get sooooo tired of living with my mom--in part because she drives me nuts at times, in part because I really do want my own life and get tired of feeling like a high-schooler, in part because I know I'm only here due to financial troubles so that's an extra worry, and in part because I know that most people, unless they really closely know why I'm still here, probably think I AM one of those losers who just doesn't have a job because I refuse to get one.

There are times when my mom and I'll be at the grocery store or something and I'm honestly embarrassed--not to be seen with my mom per se, but to be seen with my mom because that makes it sort of obvious that I'm my age and still living with my mom. One of those times I'm REALLY glad I look young and like I'm still in high school, because then hopefully everybody assumes I'm like 17 and it's not weird for me to still be living at home and borrowing my mom's car.

I hate this economy. I think a lot of troubles in the world--hunger, unemployment rates, crime, housing crises, pollution--would be solved if people would procreate less: I mean, most of those problems are created or in some way perpetuated by the fact that there are too many people and not enough resources, yeah? So I guess being CF is also my way of not adding to the problem.

I think it's great that people who don't really want kids aren't having them. I see too many people these days who are terrible parents. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I think in our society there's lots of pressure to get married and have kids. I think you guys are smart to follow your heart and not have children if you don't really want them.

[color:"orange"] Thank you, JanZeiger! I apreciate that.[/color]

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

Here's my 5 reasons:

1. Shoes
2. Pocketbooks
3. Clothes
4. Diamonds
5. Trips to Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin, and Amsterdam.... in one year.

Good stuff!

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

There are 100's of positive reasons to live child free... but I just can't think of ONE legitimate reason to HAVE children, and no one has ever been able to give me one.
[so they can look after you when you are old is NOT a legitimate reason].
I love being child free for most of the same reasons as you guys... sleep, more available $, no "gimme gimmies", peace and quiet, lots of time for me and for hubby.

In this day and age, its almost cruel to have children. They have to go to school in crime ridden, overcrowded schools, and they have to spend most of their childhood in daycare while mom and dad are working. They live in front of a TV and can't survive without video games and cell phones. I would not want to be a child growing up today... why would I make some other living being suffer through childhood?

I think the common theme here is the absolute freedom to do what we want, when we want, without having to factor in somebody else.

If you decide to move to someplace new, you don't have to worry about the school system in the new place or your kid freaking out about leaving their friends behind.

You can live the way you want to without your kid complaining as to why you can't be like other parents or worry that your lifestyle will cause your kid to be a schoolyard target.

You can spend your money on your needs and your wants without worrying about braces for little Jimmy or hearing the whines about why you won't buy them the newest game console.

As somebody else pointed out, there are nine million and one practical reasons for not having kids, but there isn't one pratical reason to having kids.
