The ad was run in the "community news/meeting" section of our paper. Our neighborhood weekly doesn't carry personals, and I don't think that would be a good fit.

[color:"487878"]I'd love to find some CF people to hang with... because my DH and I recenty graduated college, most of our friends at the moment are childLESS, but we don't have any who plan on remaining that way and they're already starting to drop like flies. I would actually faint from surprise if anyone around here would come to a CF meeting, though. Here where the Bible-belt intersects the conservative midwest, procreation is not only the norm, it's pretty much a requirement. I'm doing my part to tout the benefits of a childfree lifestyle to anyone who'll listen, though. I am a Bible-believing Christian as well, but I have yet to find the eleventh commandment that says "thou shalt bear children" or a punishment promised if you don't. Pretty sure it's not in there. What about the single people, though?

[color:"blue"] I know some childfree people, but very few. My dh and I have met a childfree couple a few monthes ago. (Thank God!) [/color]

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

Katja:

The group could be structured any which way you want it to go--singles, couples, mixed, whatever. My friend wanted other couples to hang out with and that's what she advertised for.

We had so many people respond we now have one where there are same-sex couples and another with singles and I think--or there's a rumor--we're all going to get together every other month for a big something or other. But that's still in the planning stages.

I think K got more than she planned for. But she's a stay-at-home CFer and has the time for it (between other stuff).

I have to ask...did you get any unsupportive calls or people calling to tell you that you're evil or something because you're child free? I've heard that from other child free groups, so I was just curious.

No. The people that called were serious about being a part of our group. And we just had our first get together--bowling--it was a good turnout and a fund time for all. Well, I had fun on the sidelines anyway.

You should turn your group into an official chapter of the group No Kidding!

Here's an article I wrote about the group:
