I was just wondering if Goldfish are bubble nesters, because my sister's goldfish's bowl/container has bubbles forming at the top. I just wanted to know, so I could tell her. Thanks Jenny, Theodore, and Bubbles II <img src="/images/graemlins/fish.gif" alt="" />
Hmm...I don't think so. The bubbles could be from the filter. The labrynth (sp?) organ in bettas and other anabantoids is what makes them bubble nesters. This is the organ that allows them to breath surface oxygen. Goldfish do not have this organ. But unless the fish seems sick, I wouldn't worry about it.
To my knowledge goldfish are not bubble nesters. The only time I have had bubbles form in my goldfish tank was after I had given them some medicean and bubbles formed where the filter water spills into the tank. Any chance you have given them meds lately? Otherwise I'm not sure what may be causing it. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help you guys! I know it's not the filter (Because she doesn't have one--not my goldfish.)and she's never given her meds before. I guess the bubbles will be a mystery. Thanks again!
a goldfish , without a filter? ew i bet that tank is icky. theyre pretty messy fish...hope they put one in soon...and i assume theres also no aeration...which isnt good, since they dont breathe from the surface. i dont mean to be cruel and i know you said its not your fish, but i doubt the owner will have to worry about the bubbles for very long. good luck!!
