The John Abbott character had at least one, possibly 2 strokes and had to be put on a respirator....he had been pronounced non-responsive and after some high drama, his wife and family decided to "pull the plug" in order to let him pass away with dignity.
(as for why the Actor was killed off in the script, I have no idea.)

I heard somewhere they were not renewing his contract. It was very sad. I grew up with this man as the dad/granddad figure on Y&R. I cried!!!

I know. I can't believe they did that to Gloria. I am not a big fan, but not telling her the right time for the funeral was pure evil.

I misses a couple days this week... I am so excited that Y & R is shown at 11 am, 6 pm and also 12 am during the week, but also on Saturdays the whole week back to back started at 7 pm on Saturday evening... If I can't be home, I'll tape it. Been nice as hectic as my schedule is, one of those times would work. I am in TN. I have watched the show since 1973 when the first one aired. I recall when Jill's family was front and center with Snapper, etc. David Hasselhoff was her brother! Times they are a'changin. I agree, I did not see the actual show but the one after; keeping Gloria from the funeral was quite mean, even for Jack!

I thought since they got a new writer that it was storyline dictated. Look at all the stories they can get out of this.
I was never a fan of the character or the actor.
