BellaOnline Forums Religion and Spirituality Wicca Negative Crystals (??)

For those of you who work with crystals, from everything I've read and been reading crystals always have positive effects on those who use them (love, protection, balance, etc...). Considering the universe and Wicca are comprised of balance, it seems that there would be some crystals that would effect people negatively.

From what I've read, different crystals can have different effects for different people as well. But, I'm talking more generally...

What are your thoughts on this??

I wouldn't say there are negative crystals, per se. Now negative intent on the part of the person using the crystals is a whole nother story.

A person needs to crefully think about the properties of the stone s/he is using before using it - as well as the frame of mind the user is in when s/he works with the stone.

For example, clear quartz magnifies everything - positive and negative energy. So someone in a really bad mood when they work with it can have a bad experience, but not because clear quartz is a negative stone.

Does that make sense?

I've never had a stone itself work negatively, but opal is notorious for having a really strong emphasizing effect, and if you get in a negative headspace, it sure will boost that. Also, crystals used for protection can become full of negative energy and need clearing regularly.

If you suddenly have a stone that breaks, esp if a small piece breaks off and disappears, that's often a sign the crystal was jettisoning a bit of itself to get rid of negative energy and leave the rest of the stone in healthy working order.
