I was just wondering if there were many left handed crocheters on here.

I'm left handed, and I crochet! LOL...funny thing about it was that anally retentive woman my father's married to was convinced that the ONLY right way to crochet or do any other type of stitching was right handed- and a waste of material, effort and time. It just was NOT possible for a lefty to learn, to hear her tell it! Which only made me that much more determined to learn- JUST to prove her wrong, and watch her eat a little Kansas Crow a la Nita! LOL...( The expression on her face was priceless when I proved her wrong, too, I might add!) LOL...

hey Nita!

i know what you mean. I'm not a leftie, but i had some one tell me once that the ONLY way to hold the hook was the pencil hold. DO WHAT?
she indicated it just didn't "look lady like". well, my stuff comes out just as nice with my stabbing knife hold.
welcome to the forum, by the way.

Hey all you south paws! I teach crochet but I'm a rightie, so it is soo hard for me to teach a leftie. just looks so confusing to me.

Glad you were able to learn.

LOL.I can imagine..hey if a stabbing knife hold works, use it! (Let 'em get get mad or outraged in the same britches they got glad in!) There was a little more to Dad's wife's nasty little attitude...was the rather juvenile, petty "I've got one up on you!" mentality. (Her daughter used to quilt professionally, won several ribbons, including the Best of Show, judged at State Fairs, conducted one woman quilt shows, had her Quilt patterns and designs nationally published several times...- and all that mess..)- it was basically her rubbing it in my face- showing off what HER daughter had done, and in her opinon, I would never do. Not that I wanted to,anyway..LOL which was rather comical in an ironic kind of way, considering that I'd rather share what I do with others, stitch for the sake of stitching...just because I love stitching and creating for the blessing and opportunity to watch the colors, stitches, patterns and textures come to life beneath my fingers and before my eyes! Just for the simple sake of just doing it!Not for the glory seeking, attention grabbing ego stroking stuff. Not to mention the satisfaction and gratification when my family enjoys what I create...To me, that's better than any ribbon at a state fair, any one woman quilt show,or getting nationally published...- for me, my family's satisfaction and suprise at what I make is MY version of a blue ribbon, or searching for that elusive Holy Grail!- And, that's what my Dad's wife could NEVER understand!
