OK here are the rules for the Baby Items Knit Along:-

(1) You can knit anything you like - clothes, toys, blankets, shawls or whatever and it doesn't have to be for a newborn baby. People welcome items for six to twelve months old babies and toddlers too.

(2) If you want to join in but there's no baby on the way amongst your friends and family, find out if there's a maternity unit in your area that would like knitted baby clothes and if so what they would like.

(3) When done we'd all love to see pictures of your work!

Remember that most people do like easy care items so if you want to use wool rather than baby yarn try to find one that is machine washable. And remember to keep a yarn label with the item you are giving so that the recipient knows how to wash it!

Any problems finding patterns, please ask!

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art3728.asp has more information on what a knit along is and how you can participate.

I'm going to knit a small, quite plain, easy care sweater for my new granddaughter, born June 22.

Oh that sounds like it would be so soft. Go for it.

I'm working on a small hooded poncho. The blanket fell off my needle so I decided to scrap that until I have had more practice. No biggie, I have spent less time working on the poncho and it is getting close to being done. (How do I stop?)

My best friend is having a little girl in December so this will be for her baby.

LOL Samten now that you've started you won't stop knitting! It's way too much fun and there are so many great patterns around to work!

I must do an article on how to pick up stitches and fix things when stitches come off the needles like that because it does happen and when it does it's not that hard to fix but needs a little practice.

The baby bootees do sound nice and the poncho sounds lovely too!

I wasn't to upset about the blanket falling off. I had made several mistakes and blotched my first attempt at pearling. And I knitted it really tight. The poncho is loose and I am hoping to be able to add in a pink ribbon around the edges.

I think I have figured out how to make a little hood, mentally, atleast. If it is workable or not will soon be known.

Keep in mind I don't really know what I am talking about

I figure the baby isn't due until December so I have time to mess up and start over.

I've nearly finished spinning my yarn but in my excitement to get going I've decided to knit a diaper shirt. It will crisscross in front with ties at the sides. I don't have a pattern and have had no luck in my search so I'm going to try and design it myself.

Okay, I've cast on my stitches and drawn out a pattern for the shape I want...

Where's everyone else? Still deciding? found something you like?

Glennys, Your granddaughter shares my birthday! May she be warm as the summer sun and full of the Spirit of Life!

Samten, remember there are no mistakes, just creative opportunities!

Gillian, thanks for the work you're doing! If you need any help I'd be happy to do what I can. Your doing a great job!

Bunny

So for the knitalong, is the idea that we just chat with each other while knitting similar items? I'm still plugging away at my fair isle cardigan for my friend's baby, so I'd be happy to join in. Sweet baby is likely to arrive before the sweater is done, but since it was 105 degrees here today (not kidding), I don't think she's going to need it for awhile!

So this cardigan pattern has you cast on the stitches all the way around the sweater, and then when you get to the armholes, you do one side, then do the back, then do the other side, essentially leaving slits to put the sleeves in. I've just made it to the armholes and have started up the right side. Tons still to do.

Happy knitting!

Yes that's about it.

I love knitting baby cardigans and jackets that way (all in one up to the armholes) and I discovered yesterday that the receptionist at work is going to have a baby in November, a friend is also having a baby so I'd better get knitting!

I hope things cool down for you soon.
