We've had house rabbits since '93 - before we were married. For the first few years, it was just two (a pair of neutered male buddies), but then it was two fixed M/F pairs after the first bun passed. We lost the oldest two last year, so now it's just one pair plus our foster bunny. And we just added a mouse to our furry family!

I would love a dog, unfortunately because of our working life it would be impractical. I couldn't leave the poor little thing at home all day.

Instead we're going to look into getting a cat when we move into our own home next month (in rented at mo). Don't know what sort, but we thought we'd call it James Brown! He he.

I'm also going to be doing some volunteer work at the local animal shelter. I signed up with them a few weeks ago and will have my induction soon. I'll get to walk the dogs, clean the kennels, play with the cats and generally help out. I'm looking forward to it too, will be a great way to meet new people who love animals.

Five!

Max the dalmapointerlab(?) (aka Maximiliano or Big Buddy)
Luna the pointette (aka Lunar, Tuna, Maguro, or Little)
Dobro the huskishepard (aka . . um . . Dobe, I guess)
Meisha the torbie cat, and
Sophia the black cat.

The funniest thing is that they all like to sleep in the queen size bed with us at the same time - and they don't always get along . . .

They're all rescues and we love them! Much easier and simpler than human kids, too -- although I still have to pick up vomit and feces on a regular basis! (

Not pets currently but then, I still live with my mother are present. I know, I know, I'm working on that.

BUT she has said she doesn't mind me having a ferret so I'm already plotting to get me a cute fuzzy.

Four

Shepherd - Jake 11
Lab/Malamute - Zeus 7
?Calico? - Boo 7
Gray tortoise - Sami 2

2 boys, 2 girls. My house would be overflowing with quadrapeds, but my hubby would throw me out.

Hubby brings cats home. He's a softie for any stray. We only have 19 at the moment. Problem is: I didn't WANT to be picking up poop & gloop all my life, and finding a sitter for so many is nigh on impossible. Bang goes my CF type lifestyle! Oh to hop on a plane anywhere without the WORRY, or being able to afford it (vets fees are horrendous).

As far as thinking they're a "substitute" - no WAY - they're FAR superior! I'd not be without my dearest too - he's perfection itself (I'm going to clone him for all you lovely women out there and make my fortune).

I couldn't live without animals! I have nine cats: Thomas, Magic, Buddy, Toby, Mr. Frisky, Bopper, Shaggy, Rolly, and Misty; a tortoise, Speed Buggy; two dogs, Zorro and Moe; a hamster, Lucky; a guinea pig, Sunnie; six horses, "Momma", "Baby", Jet, Seven, Rockster, and Sweetie; and a rat named Tucker. Life wouldn't be complete without the best thing in life, my animals!

Definitely. Although I admit that I feel that way about cats as opposed to dogs, too. I like dogs quite well, but I wouldn't want one--maybe in part because they're akin to kids in some ways--rambunctious, drooly, smelly, clingy....dogs are great but I wouldn't want to live with one 24-7. Cats all the way.
