I don't necessarily believe that it has to do with how smart you are because I have a friend who is a lawyer and so she is pretty smart, but she had kids because her husband wanted them and she was tired of working and so she thought having kids would be easier than working. Of course, now she realizes how much work it is, but at least she enjoys being a Mom and is not one to complain about it. It was actually refreshing to hear her talk about her experience and to realize that even if it is tougher than you thought, it doesn't mean it is then end of the world or that you stop being who you are. I think most people just do not take the time to look at everything that is involved and all they see is the Kodiak moments. There are smart people, dumb people, rich people, poor peole and all inbetween that have kids that maybe shouldn't have.
I cannot believe your friend said that she tries not to think about that stuff! How could she not think about it? The tough stuff is 90% of raising kids and if she doesn't think about it and prepare for it, she is going to be in for a huge shock and it will make parenting that much tougher. I hope everything works out for her, but I am not holding my breath
Like you, this is my favorite spot on the internet too and I am so glad that I found it this week and that I now have friends that are like me, even if it is just through the internet
