[color:"blue"] I think the smarter the person, they are able to use common sense, and have responsiblity.

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

"His workplace is pretty big and all collegues who are in a partnership (who are, say, over 30) have kids, except for one who has a gambling problem!"

Having kids IS a gambling problem.

My hubby is a builder and I'm an administrator (although I do run a little jewellery business on the side) so neither of us are high-fliers, movers and shakers or whatever you want to call it.

We both like going on holidays and visiting places together. We like reading in the evenings, going to the cinema, eating out and enjoying life. We are very happy and content with our lives and feel no need to change the formula. (No matter what other people say!)

Crazy isn't it? These people that bleat on about how we're missing out. I don't believe I am and I'm not about to go and get pregnant just to make sure.

It's funny how the childfree topic has got so big in the media recently. As far as I'm aware, the choice to be childfree has always been around, it was just called Childless, but that was ok because it implied that you couldn't have kids for medical reasons.

It's going to get worse for us CF's too. It is another battle the media will stir up to get emotions raging and to get a good story.....it used to be the war between the classes, and then men/women.

That's all old hat now and a bit boring so they have a new scapegoat and what better than a selfish, materialistic, immature, unfeminine, (add whatever other words you care to) woman who dared to declare to the world that she **shock/horror*** didn't want to have children.

The way I see it is this: Yes we do need to have children to keep the world going around. However, there are enough children in this world to enable this to be so. So get off my case and let me be!

[color:"blue"] They already give Jennifer Aniston [censored] because she doesn't want any children.

That's true; when she and Brad Pitt separated the general attitude of the media seemed to be hey, Brad Pitt cheated on his wife BUT WAIT!! Jennifer won't give him children...

Overall I think the media was generally sympathetic to her, but there always seemed to be this underlying current of disapproval.

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

What do you guys think? Are you all high-powered executives, with massive salaries?
I'm a lowly librarian, btw..... but don't wear tweeds, glasses, or buns in hair... LOL.
Hi,

I'm a music teacher at a private high school. The job has lots of perks, including amazing kids to work with, wonderful colleagues who all are committed to what they do, good bennies, LOTS of time off, etc. --- but good pay ain't one of 'em. I make in the mid-30K ($US) range and, unlike my public school colleagues, there are no scheduled raises other than what the school can (intermittently) afford. When they do arrive, the raises are microscopic.

My fiancee is a city letter carrier for the US Postal Service. It's a pretty low-stress job which he loves (hey, it's the postal CLERKS behin the counter and the folks who work at the mail processing plants who "go postal" --- not the carriers! He's got a walking route, loves being outdoors and dealing with his customers, and even loves sorting his mail in the morning with the 40 other carriers in his office. They razz each other and give each other a really hard time, in a good-natured way). He makes about $45K US.

So I don't think we'd qualify as high-level executives!!!

Elise

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/vine/bestof.shtml

For a completely biased talk show on what happens when one of you wants children and the other doesn't, I recommend the Jeremy Vine show on Mon 31 July, hopefully accessible via the above link. I was expecting a few CF advocates, but no, it was all "I want, I want" regardless of the husbands views, with even a couple of shocking stories from the husbands themselves who had been tricked into fatherhood and are now living with the consequences. This link will probably only work till Sunday 6 Aug.
