Oh , YES ! Just My experience !!!
And what makes it worse is that you don't notice it till your in another row.
Now this is in Knitting.
In crocheting I have to hold it up to the light, cause there are 2 strands to get on the hook.
But the end items>> are to get complements for!!!
AND, once you make many rows or several items the yarn begins to work with you !!!
The needle size also has to mesh.
I tried using larger size needles in both Crocheting/Knitting and I like the mid size numbers.
