my beautiful boy cat, Boris, was found by me at the local shelter two years ago now. He was dumped on the freeway and was very ill and near giving up when he was rescued. anyway, now he is well adjusted and very kind and loving to his new family, but he has newly become a terror to the birds in our yard. we have a fenced in yard and I love to feed the birds. I moved their food and water to the front yard where Boris cannot go. But still he has caught a bird. We put a bell on him, that works slightly, not wholly. The one thing I'll say in reply to the article about "The Danger to Birds: Cats!" is that when Boris catches a poor little bird, he eats EVERY bit of it! Yuck!! Still, I am sick about it, and am looking for help to preserve these precious birds' lives. Any thoughts or advice is quite welcome. Thanks. And I am glad to be newly here in the forum.

just an idea, have you thought about making him an inside cat? not only is that safer for him, it is safer for the birds and other small animals.

we have 3 8 year old kitties and they have never been outside on their own. we do not have to worry about them getting into fights, or killed by a wandering dog or a malicious person. or gettng diseases.

I would try making him an inside cat. alot of the cat groups encourage this. or make him a large cat pen outside where he can run and play and climb etc, like an extension from a window that you can use for this? that way he can still get outside but be protected and protect the birds.
