I crochet a swatch of material for booties and now I need to do the instep and don't understand what I am suppose to do? Instep reads: with edge facing where color is carried across join in end st of 8th row. Row 1: ch 1, sc in same st as joining sc in end st of next 4 rows. Ch 1, turn, 5 scs.
I have never made booties b4. Only flat potholders. I am a beginner. Thanks so much Summer

Hi Summer,
I saw no one had responded to this post so let me see if I can be some assistance to you.
I'm assuming that the 8th row is the bootie section of the patten so you will need to get that edge and count to the 8th row(I always mark my rows with a safety pin when I know I'm going to attach something to it that way I don't have to count) Then begin your 1st row for the instep as the pattern begins. If I haven't answered your question then post again and we will get you through this.
I have seen some bootie patterns that are kind of all one piece which would be easier to begin if you can't get the hang of it. But don't give up because after a while it starts becoming second nature.

I gave up! I think it is a little advanced for me to start. I have no picture to go by so that is my hold up believe it or not! Thanks Gracie and have a great rest of the week.

I am working on a scarf right now, I noticed I decreased in some places, sc only. What can I do to add a stich or two to the obviously crooked scarf? Should I make some kind of a border around the scarf, would this be easier? Thank you so much

Hi Summer, You probably missed some stitches. If you add stitches, your scarf will still be crooked along the edges. You should unravel to the point where you have the correct number of stitches so that your scarf will be straight along the edges.

It is important to count, count, count your stitches on every single row to make sure you have the same number of stitches on every row. This way your scarf will have straight edges.

Well , as Aunty M says , count , count , count , is important .

Now , just my idea, since you do not want to Rip your project and want to make a border, you can make this creation into something cute , by making the edge even , by using sc, hdc, and dc to fill in the un-even places.
I don't know how en-even your Scarf is , but you can try this idea.

I do this at times on the Squares I make.
And , even seasoned people make Booo Booos.

Mother Hen is right Summer6 we all make mistakes and no matter how long you crochet you either have to adlib or rip it out from time to time. Just last night I ripped out a doiley and started again. Also from time to time you will find out that some patterns are written in error.
When I started crocheting I would make mistakes and adlib to make it look like it was suppose to. I really learned a lot because I caught on to what stitches would look like.
I usually rip out and start back where the error is now because it bugs me to know there is an error in the work but there is nothing wrong with adlibing and making it look good by covering up your mistakes. Just don't get discouraged and don't give up.

Hi There! I am so pleased I did a crochet border around my scarf and I love it. It is not perfect by no means but I really am pleased that I did the border all the way around. I will however have to remember to count count count next time.
I am working on a new scarf right now and I ripped it out 3x!!! Finally I have it right. I was frustrated as I spent 4 hours on it, but by God I have it now! AMEN Have a super week one and all ;-)

Hello all,

I'm currently working on an enormous cloth (it'll be over 60" when it's done) and it takes over an hour just to go one round. A couple days ago I found a mistake 8 rounds before (I was on round 87) and had to go back. I think the hardest thing about going back to fix a mistake is actually making yourself pull that thread until you get back to it. After that it's right back to crochet, and eventually you get back to where you were. I have to say that was heartbreaking though!

Good luck with the new scarf!

Ripit ripit ripit! I am queen of the froggin <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Sometimes I think I've frogged more than I've created...lol. and not always because of a mistake. i may just loose interest in a project. for instance, i have a shrug sweater that i designed based on a doily pattern. I have FIVE, yes that's 5, skiens into already. Five 8oz skeins of RH that is. a boat load of yarn. and i really just dont like it. its just layin there on top of my stash, waiting for me to get the nerve and the heart to rip it out.
