I just started a tutleneck poncho I want to give to my Mom for Christmas. I know it seems early but I'm really slow at it and I need to make 4 ponchos, for my mom, Grandma, aunt-in-law, and grandma-in-law. I also want to make one for my cousin who's 6 and a few scarfs for other friends.

Has anyone else strated their Christmas Crochet projects? If not, when do you normally begin?

I've started on ponchos also. I'm making the poncho from the latest Crochet Magazine. I'm making the ones with the pockets out of Navy Blue Homespun yarn. I'm also making an extra one in case my son has the same girlfirend for Christmas or a new one. I always like his girlfriends to feel welcome in my home and like they are apart of the family. So what ever I make my daughter then I make an extra one just in case.
I've got slippers made for the grand kids as well.

If I am giving crochet gifts for Christmas I try to start as early as possible - January, or February for example. That way you aren't rushed, and at least in my case when I am rushed then I start making mistakes!

Yay! I'm not the only one with Christmas on her mind, lol. I keep telling myself, "keep going, you can do this." You see, my problem is that I don't have the patience to make big pieces. Even scarves make me impatient. I really need to stick with it and actually finish the piece so I can move on to another one!
I'd love you see what you all have made. I'll post pics as soon as I'm done with the first poncho.

Absolutely I have started on Christmas projects! As a matter of fact, I am working on a Christmas project right now. I live out of town and still have dial-up (at least until autumn) and crochet while waiting for the next page to load). I have three new Santa Stockings to crochet (two new grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild this year!), each of whom will receive one of Nana's "special" stockings that I make for each member of the family. And I usually make a small gift for close friends (a doily or an ornament, that type of thing). So, if I don't start in July, I never finish in time.

I just finished a hat, scarf and mittens I was so pleased with the mittens I had to show them off on my blog so I just told the girls who ever gets home first gets the set for Fall. I am starting all over again. I have a sweater for my mom started in Homespun (hate it love it). I will make hat scarf sets with the darling new mittens for each girl (3) and have found a pattern for a felted purse I like. The GKs gets hats and plain mittens from bevscountry cottage site. They loose too many to make complicated mitts. I have added a gift for my grand-dog a sweater most likely in pink. http://www.knittons.blogspot.com/ Mimi

I can't think about Christmas projects yet. I'm still crocheting the blanket/booties for my nephews little girl (who was born two months ago and will likely have outgrown the booties by the time I finish them).
