ESPN.com has announced that Danica Patrick (Indy racer) may be looking to move to NASCAR as soon as 2007. This was according to her parents who also manage her career. Her contract with Rahal-Letterman Racing ends after this season. I think NASCAR could use another female driver. So far the ladies who have moved to NASCAR from other series have not faired so well. It seems the best female prospect right now is Erin Crocker, who is running the ARCA series and a few Busch races. Erin is in pretty good equipment and has a good team headed by former Jeff Gordon crew chief Ray Evernham. Ray seems to have a lot of patience with Erin while she is gaining seat time. Danica has alreay been surrounded by publicity which will enlist her a good team and great sponsors. This will ensure that she will get awesome equipment. She should be able to truly show her abilities. This could be very good for NASCAR.
All over the sport this weekend everyone was talking about Juan Pablo Montoya (F1 racer) signing on with Chip Ganassi racing in a "WOW" move. I'm already impressed with the guy if he lives up to his quotes:
ESPN.com quote: "It's not how many millions you're making or how much money you're making," Montoya said at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday. "It's a matter of, three years down the line, are you going to be excited at what you're doing or not? And three years down the line, when I look at my career, I'll be a lot happier doing this."
Did we just hear someone say money doesn't matter?? I hope NASCAR can really make him that happy...
Welcome to the family, Juan Pablo. We'll set a place for you too, Danica, but no thumping your brothers over here.
