My husband and I recently discovered the Universalist Unitarian Church. It's a humanitarian organization, they do not focus on a god or set doctrine. Well, I guess their doctrine is one of love and acceptance and making a diffference where you can. This has been a great thing for my husband and I, and our kids, since I have been an athiest for some time now, but unsure of what exactly I was looking for. My husband has claimed Christianity for himself, but he's had his doubts, and it's wonderful either way to have a place where we can both celebrate life and joy. And it's wonderful to have a place of fellowship and sharing and learning for the kids. So, just wanted to share the joy I feel at finding so many like-minded and accepting folks out there!

This too shall pass.

Sounds like Buddhism with respectability... Throw the word 'Church' in, and everyone automatically thinks 'God' and 'Christian'.... So that's ok then.... It becomes acceptable...

If it floats your boat, then may you find happiness and fulfilment, Joy, peace and serenity. That's what matters, at the end of the day.

I once attended a UU church for about a year. I left because it seemed to be pulling in every direction all at once and had no real sense of direction or guidance.

as with every "church", each UU will be different. I've had very positive experiences.

That then, perhaps, is where it differs from Buddhism, emaster101....

Hi Diana

I'm so glad you and your husband have found a community organisation that meets both your needs

Is it significant that a thread on the unitarian universalist church is in the atheist forum?

The Atheist editor is new and doesn't have moderator status yet. When she does I'm sure she will make a decision as to whether this thread is appropriate or not. In the meantime I think Diana posted here because, as she said, she herself is an atheist. As far as I'm concerned, she's welcome here.

And why does a "god fearing" person hang out in an athiest forum?
