I am trying to learn how to crochet and have been so for over a weeek now. I am learning how to chain stich but each chain seems to be different sizes. I am using a size 8- 4.00mm hook and 8ply wool (these are australian sizes). If you could help me I would greatly appreciate as I am at my wits end.

Thankyou

Chriseeau25.

It is tension problem which we all have when we first learn. Make sure that you have the yarn in your hand correctly, you should be able to slide the yarn easily both forward or backward. Keep on practicing, it will get easier, honest.

It really will get easier, I promise! When I first started to crochet, it took me weeks of getting nowhere, and I gave up on it! Made me pretty mad, not being able to figure it out, so after a couple weeks of pouting about it, the hook and yarn came out once again! I eventually got it down right, and you will to! Don't give up, just keep practicing and you'll get it!

You may want to experiment with different hooks, because for me, there is a difference.Like Eva said in her reply, the yarn should be able to slide easily. From a personal perspective, I am unable to use bamboo or plastic hooks to achieve that. For me, I need an aluminum hook. Maybe that will help you to.
