If you are traveling in Mexico and have a cookie craving, which of the following would you point to in a bakery?

a) Helado
b) Pastel
c) Galleta

The first person to reply with the correct answer is one-third of the way to winning a great cookbook!

You got it, Terri! "Galleta" is the word used in Mexican cooking to mean "cookie." "Helado" means ice cream, and "pastel" means cake!

Time for the second question. Remember, it's still anyone's game, even though Terri is in the lead!

What group is responsible for forming the foundation of Mexican baked desserts?

a) Enslaved Aztecs
b) Spanish nuns
c) Tex-mex entrepeneurs
d) French occupiers

Good luck, and keep trying!

Well done, DrNaste! While French occupiers made many contributions to Mexican pastry cooking, the foundation had already been laid by Spanish nuns.

Time for the third question. Now there are two contenders, but it's still anybody's game!

Veering away from Mexico....

Which kind of cookie has a soft dough rather than a relatively stiff dough?

a) Drop cookies
b) Rolled cookies
c) Molded cookies
d) Refrigerator cookies

Good luck!

Well done, DrNaste....do you think you can finish it off, or will someone challenge you?

Question number 4:

Hypotheses for the origin of the name of which popular cookie include the Greek word for "hill" and the French word for "gold?"

Here's a clue, since this one seems to be stumping everyone.

Hint: I'm looking for a brand name, though similar cookies are often generically called this, much like how all tissues are called Kleenex.

Best of luck!
